Not if you sync them with another system, like Exchange or iCloud. All my email, contacts, calendar and reminders are in my Exchange server so I literally just point the phone at this and bingo :)

Not many people have their own exchange server to store their contacts on

I would like to start fresh, but if it means putting in my contacts, calendar items, notes and other settings back in then i think i will pass

gmail and icloud will back up contacts/calendar etc to the cloud enabling you to restore them just by logging in...

If they are backed up to icloud then restored it would make this statement obsolete wouldnt it? (full restore, no backup)

Such a huge improvement for me, as said earlier, I will run down to zero, fully charge and see how it goes with a bit more normal usage tomorrow.'

I think what's being proposed is, rather than doing a full backup of the entire device via iTunes and then restoring that, you set the phone up again from scratch. If you have contacts, emails, calendars etc in something like iCloud or Exchange then it makes it a lot easier to get these back on the phone obviously as you just configure the account again but you'll have to configure apps and settings etc again.

I haven't used a iTunes back up of the phone. It is a fresh restore, I then added my Exchange details which only bring across Contacts, Cal and Email.

Are right, so I would wipe the phone and restore from cloud but not from itunes. Wouldnt all the apps be missing then?

Why would this make a difference to battery life anyway

So I charge the phone all night with all apps closed via the task manager and 15 minutes after taking it off the dock, and without using it, the battery is already down to 94% - wtf!?

Had my 2 day old iPhone 4 replacement stolen on Saturday night so I was going to grab a 16gb today but scanning the thread quickly there seem to be problems with the phone? Is it hardware or iOS5 that's the problem?

I've started to notice that even after fully charging my iphone over night, as soon as i remove the cable it instantly drops to 99%. If i plug it straight back in and let it charge to 100% again it seems to be fine and holds at 100.

This appears to have improved my battery life as it stays around 100% for a while, maybe the software battery indicator has some bugs.

I've had it both ways. I unplugged it at 100% at the weekend and it stayed at 100% for a good 15-20 mins whilst I was using it, but this morning it dropped to 94% after 15 mins and I'd not even used it.

Now at 82% after about half an hour of usage and 2.5 hours since I took it off charge. Something is very wrong here. I think iOS5 is sometimes (but not always) running something in the background which is draining the battery and which we can't see nor kill via the task manager.

I suspect some people may have a calibration issue with their batteries. I too was seeing a large drop early in the day with little to no direct usage. My battery ran flat after 1 3/4 days use. After the next full charge, this apparent drop was much reduced. I also observed that I lost the first 50% quite quickly , but the last half was much more robust. This has now stopped.

Not sure this'll help eveyone, but if might help some to diagnose if tey have a real hardware problem

Don't know why everyone is ranting about the battery, mine's been rock solid and better than my 3GS.

You don't know why? As in you really don't know why, or do you mean that as a figure of speech?

I don't mean that in a rude way, it's just that it sounds like you're in the minority!
