********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

Is everyone turning off the notification location service "Setting time zone"?

I know some have, but that basically made the difference for me.

Yup made a difference, battery is still doing okish.

Currently sat on;

Usage: 3 Hours, 43 Minutes
Standby: 3 Days, 3 Hours

I did have similar to this in one of my earlier posts. If i go medium to high useage though it's just about a day or considerably less.

Has that officially been confirmed. Mines sat on my deck now and I'm in two minds about even bothering opening it and just send it back for a refund.

It's a lot of cash to drop on something with such poor battery performance.

I'm almost certain its a software thing, I'm waiting for a PAC transfer to go through on mine so since it arrived its been charged once and then sat unused on my desk (not installed any apps), the battery had gone down about 5-10% after 24 hrs, will check again when I get back from work.

Just wanted to +1 re: iTunes restore.

After I downloaded iOS5 from Apple via iTunes and installed it onto my 4S it's like a different phone altogether. Was relatively pain free too seeing as all my apps were in iTunes anyway so was just the case of syncing it afterwards.

The difference in battery life is like night and day. Very happy now that I don't have to turn off all the features that make a smartphone "smart". :)

Eh? So you reinstalled iOS5 on a phone that already had it installed?

Correct, Full restore, no back up, set up as new phone.

Currently

49%
Usage 3hr, 5 mins
Standby 1 day 0 hrs

Such a huge improvement for me, as said earlier, I will run down to zero, fully charge and see how it goes with a bit more normal usage tomorrow.

Almost dead now, so getting ready for the recharge.
2%
Usage 6hrs, 20 mins
Standby 2 Days 2 hours

7 hours usage is quite a bit (providing it's actual usage).

That's good no? Depending on what those 7 hours were for.
Yeah, that seems alright. Used for browsing a bit, texting, few photos and videos (literally a few)... Not sure how I did that for 7 hours. Have a feeling it was on overnight a bit (I woke up with phone underneath me lol, so might have turned it on/off during night), hour of music as well (though they say you can do that for like 40hours..)

Will get it charged up now and see what it is like over the week. Should be transferred from Virgin to GiffGaff tomorrow so phone won't probably be on.
As long as I can take it off charge in the morning and use it throughout the day till I get home (between 3 and 9pm) I'm fine with it really. If I know I'm not going to be near something to charge it with I will have to 'prepare'. Will be taking my USB cable to work/college anyway to be safe.

/Chucks pizza in the oven
/Holds down home button, "Remind me in 10 minutes to check the pizza" .... "yes" Love it :)

Yes it's called a restore, obviously there is something wrong with the OS that came with the iPhone.

Ah ok, when people referred to a 'restore', I presumed they just meant restoring the phone to factory defaults then reinstalling.

EDIT: So how exactly do I restore - Googled for some guides but none mention downloading iOS, they just suggest that it restores the phone to factory defaults - do I need to do something to force it to download iOS5 again and restore that onto the phone?

Surely this is pretty bad battery life -

Usage 1 hour, 42 minutes
Standby 11 hours, 44 minutes

I have 58% battery left

How are people getting 7 hours usage?

Brightness just below half all the time, notification just messages, phone and calendar. Setting time zone, traffic, location based iads all off. Icloud all off apart from find my phone. ping off in restrictions

I've done a restore today, using iTunes so it downloaded iOS 5 and reloaded it that way.

I tried it while restoring from iCloud and it made little difference. My battery was dropping a % every 5 mins of just the screen being on and 3G data connected but not active.

So now I've got it set up as a new phone, lost all my messages, but synced everything else using iTunes. Did the usual turn off everything including the time zone location service.

I'm at 100% while typing this after it being idle for 20 mins but we shall have to see.

And to the person not knowing how to do an iTunes reinstall, with your phone connected with USB go to the iTunes summary page and click restore. It downloads the file and installs it on your phone.

It's around 800mb file.

I can already see that this has made a major difference, I'm speed test thrashing, texting, browsing, all connected to wifi and still hasn't dropped 1%.

14 minutes usage showing in settings. And that is moderate usage, no gaming.

I'm also going to start logging in to apps one by one, i'm interested to know how many people here with problems have the facebook app, i've seen around the net there's a lot of people claiming the facebook app's push notifications being on drains battery life a lot.

EDIT: Finally dropped 1%, 21 minutes of moderate use, 27 minutes standby.

It's definitely not Facebook as a lot of people who had problems also didn't have it - myself included.

Good luck with the iTunes restore, I'm pretty sure that yours will also be fixed from it - touch wood.

2%
Usage 6hrs, 20 mins

Just died last figures i got a few mins ago were.

1%
Usage 7hrs, 10 mins
Standby 2 days 4 hours

Now for the recharge. What ever happens with the fresh restore, it works as far as I can see.

Standby and usage has increased well over 100% for me. Happy days.

I will be hammering it tomorrow with texts, calls and see what occurs then.
