In the System Services menu, make sure only Compass Calibration, Mobile Network Search, and Traffic are switched on. This way, nothing unnecessary will be trying to find your location. If you use Siri, turn off Siri in Location Services. Turn off "Ask to Join Networks" in the Wi-Fi menu too.
It's been said before, but just in case.
As for other battery life issues, has anyone with the issues tried doing a full, fresh install of iOS 5.0.1? Just suggesting it as I've been getting great battery life (on 56% now) on my phone, using Maps for ten minutes, 20 minutes of browsing on 3G, about 25 texts, an hour of phone calls, with Wi-Fi on but not connected (see above), and with IMAP syncing my mail every 15 minutes, Exchange for contacts, social networks, eBay, the whole lot syncing. The phone came off the charger at 8am this morning.
I know it's different for everybody, but it at least gives a rough idea of what you should be expecting. Unfortunately don't have numbers as I restarted my phone (network issue).
