********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

I was looking forward to an iphone 5 to drive the tech along.

It doesn't sadly.

Its already dead tech :p

do you think when the iclone walks out the apple store having paid for the phone and signed up for £50 a month, with what looks like his old phone in his hand the penny may drop?

I'm going to ask you nicely guys. Neither of you are stupid, surely you must have something better to do than deliberately try and wind everyone up?

You know it doesn't work, right? The iPhone 4 (as an example) easily holds its own against the Galaxy S II and it's 16 months old. This is real world use I'm talking about, not benchmarks.

It is competitive, it's still going to be the best selling individual high-end phone, whether you like it or not.

It's more about the overall package than the hardware itself, the amount of people that buy a phone based on hardware specs alone is quite small.

Competitive in the same way the LG Optimus X2 is, nice enough phone but it's nothing special, sort of like the new iPhone.

Wheres the innovation? I'm not seing any.

Your right of course, they will still sell millions, I've said it before and I'll say it again, they could just release the same phone with a different name and it would still sell well.

In what world? seriously no it's not. It's just very well supported, theres a difference.

3dcandy, you do realise apple is an image brand and only caters for the high end and only ever will. Total Market shares mean nothing to them, they simply don't care about low and middle ground. Their profits and users are up.

Of course...not knocking Apple per se, just think this is honestly 6 months too late. The hardware isn't great, would have been fine 6 months ago. In 6 months it will be blasted away as everyone else has raised their game, whilst Apple appears to not done so. That, my sire, is my point. Locked into an 18 or 24 month contract with a phone that appears 6 months behind? No thank you. As I said, analysts in US are saying the same. Also, it appears that Mr. Jobs successor was pretty pants, handed the show over to a minion, and is paying for his bad show with a nice share price fall...
Regardless of anything, as has been pointed out, the fanbois would buy it whatever. It's just that this launch is completely underwhelming from nearly every point, something that is just so un-Apple

The Optimus 2X was the first dual-core phone on the market, you can't get much more innovative than that.

Terrible comparison. Try again.

O, i see a Easyrider signature in this thread.

Without reading anything he's saying i'm sure he is enthralled about the revelation of the new iPhone release and has come scoffing all the way into the apple section to laud at us all about his AWESOME tech that he owns that isn't apple.

pew...pew!

You know the rule - if Easyrider doesn't want it/can't afford it, it's completely crap and you'd be a moron to buy one!

I remember we used to get pages and pages of this back in the GC forum many years ago. Luckily he moved on... and hang on... ebilcake took his place.

Do you see a pattern? I do. :D

Dont worry about them - they are hard at work benching something - though it seems Easys busy filming snuff films in 1080p :p. Though it worries me that his last post was about kids

Plenty of supposed Apple fanbois already agreeing the launch isnt what we all hoped for...

ps3ud0

Don't be absurd. Are you seriously suggesting that people would buy faeces if it had an Apple logo on it?

To coin a phrase...

Seriously?

Don't tar everyone with the same brush. I know many people who buy Apple products, I've never seen anyone like some of the muppets in the videos that people keep bandying about of store openings and the such.

Keep this thread on topic. It's about the iPhone 4S.

What are people actually buying then? A faster phone than a iphone 4? a lifestyle?

They are buying into BS....Its dated tech that offers nothing over current GEN phones.

Tech doesn't work this way....If its not faster lighter or smarter then why buy it other than for the brand?

Feek has a point, the sales figures will show otherwise. No matter what phone that Apple put out, it will be successful. But at the same time, what easyrider said is kinda valid; people will just buy Apple products "just cus".

The issue, however, is that people are going to look at the 4S and not see any advantages to that over the 4, and more importantly for Apple, Android devices. It will sell, but I'm skeptical as to how it will sell against previous iPhone models. People will look at the 4 and not see an "inferior" phone. And to be honest, they have a point, it is pretty much the same thing, no matter how you swing it.

The price is a huge issue as well. The alternatives are just too good for the iPhone to sell with extreme ease at that price. I just don't think that SGS2 sales are going to fall like a brick because of this release...

Not turning this into an Android vs iOS thread by the way. It's just that today's releases have made Android an even easier decision for some.

[Common sense]
If in real world applications, an Ip4 holds its own vs a 'theoretically' twice as powerful SGS II, why would a more then (if you count GPU power too) twice as powerful new iPhone be completely redundant at release?

That depends, when ip5 will be released and what with. Is there some new chip apple is going to use in iPad3 which is ready in the new year. Perhaps in June will be ip5.

Share price fall is a temp things, which happens at such events when what is rumoured isn't shown.

iPhone is a different Market to android. Android is very much about outright specs, where apple is about the Eco system.

They will increase users and profit from this and ip4 users will still be tied into a contract.

But as I said they should have changed the shape slightly and called it ip5 as most people wouldn't be moaning like they are now.

Most people are on 2 years contracts and most people renew their contract missing a generation.

Only die hard will have bought each new iPhone iteration released. Still, i can sell my iPhone 4 and nearly buy a iPhone 4S out right anyway. Resale value is high on the iPhone which is good.

I have a Galaxy S2 currently, and I have to say that it's probably the worst phone I've ever had.

It seemed lovely to start with - it's fast, there is no doubt of that - especially compared to my old Desire, but it's just utter crap. It struggles to hold a data connection, reception is terrible, battery is degrading at an alarming rate, their own keyboard sucks and they don't allow me to update Swype because Samsung bodged it in as standard rather than having it installed properly, the vibration motor resonates with just a tap of the phone, the camera randomly dims images (although, in it's defence - macro performance is amazing!), the screen is the first I've managed to scratch in the last three or four years and that's just the start of it and before you get on to the physical build quality....

Needless to say, I'll be upgrading to a phone that works - a 4S.

I'm stating fact...The specs are already old.

Not winding anyone up its fact

It's a shame that Samsung don't have any phones that are actually built to the same premium quality as the iPhone. Plastic, flimsy Galaxy S' mmmmm, great.

Oh and you're conveniently ignoring the entire draw of the App store, iTunes and iBooks.

ok on a serious note, if they updated most things inside why not just jazz up the shell a little, just a minor facelift? i would honestly struggle to part with the cash if i was an ip4 user.
