********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

Best to hold - I disagree I LOVE the feel of the Desire HD, its solid, sleek and feels really really well built

The Desire HD? Really? It feels like a huge slab compared to the Sensation and the two plastic parts on it are nasty! :(

Overall they both have their good and bad points and its down to personal preference. as with most things in life.

Exactly, this is the point that I'm trying (in vain) to get across.

Think Robbo was referring to iTunes as the complete service (buying/renting media etc...), not just the conduit to connect your PC to your phone...

Indeed, Android not having a media service like iTunes immediately causes many people to rule it out.

In some respects it is better technology, in others it isn't. Due to the differing nature of the systems you can't state things like that as fact.

No, it isn't silly.

Now, to quote a post I made a while ago about why I use my iPhone 4 instead of my Galaxy S II/Sensation/etc -

I think that should cover it. :)

Im no fan of apple, but im not going to slate them, if they lowered their prices and where not SO hell bent on almost forcing people to upgrade to get new features....Id be a little softer towards them.

I had a play with a sensation for the first time the other day and I did enjoy it, I think its th fact the DHD fits perfectly in my hand that I like

Massive cop out IMO - especially as they took well over a year for this.

That said, it is only going to be about £150 on top of selling a iPhone 4 which could be tempting.

how are they opinionated? it's a spec sheet.

The green highlights are opinionated.

Screen tech, dimensions, screen size, etc are all down to personal opinion.

I also find the SII is going for the 'i have the best spec on paper so buy me' when actually it's battery life is worse than the rest.

Spec != overall experience.

So in terms of internals what would you have wanted instead?

CPU might be slower than rivals but power usage could be much lower. Faster cpu = more power = more people moaning about battery life.
Sensor might 'only' be 8MP but what about the lens/light collecting ability.
Battery might be smaller but if the entire package is more optimised battery life might be longer.

Spec != overall experience.

Itunes - I dont want to be anchored to some software, I can drag and drop easy, can use itunes for my PC if I wish.

And yet again, someone completely missis the point of iTunes. iTunes is not just a media player and sync program. It is a media shop.

The previous screen lasted 3 generations, why would anyone think the retina will only last 1 is beyond me.

Put it this way - all previous iphones; 4 generations of it have had a 3.5" screen - its time to move on - they could have made the handset a tiny bit bigger and had a 3.7" screen at least.

htc desire s (115 x 59.8) - 3.7 inches
ip4 - (115.2 x 58.6) - 3.5 inches

So why can't they allow you to load just the media player/sync part seperatley from the shop bit?

It makes no difference and is not what apple is about. Simplified and all under one banner. It actually works really well. As well as DRM, same as zune and samsungs android store. Difference is iTunes/zune plays on pretty much anything running apple/windows. Samsung store runs on about 8 samsung devices and you can't player it on a pc.

At least I can buy media on apple and wp7, what does android have, phones and tablets are a media device with no access to a huge swath of media.

People keep banging on about screen size, but where is the evidence to suggest that it is what the majority of Apple users actually want?

Other manufacturers might have bigger screen sizes, if that is what you really need from a phone, then I suggest you buy from other manufacturers.

You also have to remember that Apple's mantra is promoting the synergy of their devices, especially with iOS5 and the Cloud. They are actively promoting how it will sync everything between your iPhone, iPad and Macs.

Apple want you to buy an iPhone and an iPad, so there is no need to be increasing the size of the iPhone.

They could have, but I think what's clear here is they wanted to keep the iPhone 4 design alive a bit longer (for accessories, etc).

There wouldn't be much point in using a 4" screen on the current iPhone 4 design, it would make it even less ergonomic so it would really need the new design to go with it.

Also, as people have pointed out, I think Apple are waiting for the new 32nm SoC, and would rather use that in the iPhone 5 with the all new design.

The iPhone 5 should be a killer phone, it will have an excellent all new design (no doubt), larger screen and likely excellent all-round hardware.

The iPhone 4 is big enough! I wouldn't want to carry anything bigger! If they added a larger screen in the same shell as the iphone4 then fine but to have to increase the handset would make me seriously think about sticking with a older handset!
