********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

Yeah, I've just lined them up in photoshop while you were doing that and the mute button has shifted down a little bit, as have the volume buttons.

That seems stupid as it may cause case problems.
Do you mind uploading a suitably lined image to demonstrate how different it is? It appears to be a few mms at worst which considering how most case buttons contact the iP4 buttons should be able to accomodate.

Ones that just have holes for them might not be as good dependent on how much space they gave in the first place.

On reflection the iP4 bumper should be fine, depends on the mute really; my other case gives the mute switch a lot of room thankfully...

EDIT: Made assumption the dock connector, speaker/mic and power button are exactly the same place - not seen any images that give that detail yet...

The only thing I think I will miss from Android is the Google integration and Google sync stuff, as on my Desire all my contacts are synced with Google.

I imagine I am in for a rough ride swapping them all over to an iPhone.

I have to admit, i'll probably get one despite already having an iP4. I'm due an upgrade next month and it doesn't look like anything will happen on the iP5/6 front until at least next summer.

I would consider switching to Android/Windows but:

a) I don't want to have to re-buy my apps.
b) The app store just isn't anywhere near as good.
c) I'm used to the iPhone.

Is that a silly thing to do on my part?

If you bought and paid for loads of apps, and your contract is up next month, I don't think it is silly to buy a 4S. All your points are valid. Sell your iP4 and get a hefty chunk back from that, re-download all your apps on the 4S and you are good to go.

Where did you get those pictures from? The dimensions seems very slightly different so either the images aren't produced properly or the 4S is a bit thicker and perhaps a bit taller than the 4...

Hm.

Woah 27 pages already!!

Is the video of the keynote up yet? Cant find it on the apple events page.

Also, where will people be selling their ip4 if their getting a ip4s?

Envirifone say 280 for a 32gb ip4.

p.s. i want one :P :D

Haha, sell the iPhone 4? No chance, the missus has already called dibs on it.

It does mean i'll get to sell her 3GS to put towards it, but whilst being in good working order it's a bit worn looking and i'll be lucky to get £150 for it I reckon.

Well, this is the two pictures you posted side-by-side -

Something looks wrong though unless they are actually slightly different sizes.

The 4S seems thinner?

To take a slightly harsh(ish) view of Android, like many do of iOS -
Customisation is nice, but relatively useless to most people and doesn't 'save' a great deal of time, nor do many of the widgets look nice

Widgets, a big selling point, often don't update properly and can be a bit of a faff (you can say otherwise but I've got plenty of experience of them not doing)

It generally looks very ugly unless it has HTC Sense running, without that it feels severely under-polished

The app market IS considerably inferior on Android, the design of the apps are just a world apart too (in most cases)

The iPhone 4 is easily the most satisfying phone to hold and use. I don't think the Galaxy S II is badly made at all, it's light and functional and solid but it isn't satisfying at all. The iPhone 4 oozes quality. You don't NEED it in a case at all, I have it in a leather pouch, perfectly fine

Also, Android has all this hardware power, but near on bugger all to utilise it, you'd still think the iPhone was the more powerful phone if you were comparing fancy apps (like games for example)

There is STILL no service like iTunes, like it or not, Android offers nothing like it

Overall, it's less stable and less reliable overall, and various parts of the OS feel 'cheap'

One of my favourite points about Android is the notification system, and Apple have stolen that now for iOS 5

Battery life. The Galaxy S II isn't far off but the iPhone 4 still runs away with it.

As an actual phone, I think the iPhone 4 performs better than the SGS2, Sensation, etc, but it isn't better than my Bold 9900 for calls and so forth, and nor should it be!

The camera STILL holds up to the Galaxy S II camera, it's not quite as good but there isn't much in it. Same goes for the video although the 1080p on the SGS2 is very, very good.

Widgets - Ive had 1 widget crash on me in my time (a year) and it re launches itself within a few seconds.

Ugly - Agree to disagree

App market - goes to apple, no questions

Best to hold - I disagree I LOVE the feel of the Desire HD, its solid, sleek and feels really really well built

Power - Thats developers being lazy not programming for it on android

Itunes - I dont want to be anchored to some software, I can drag and drop easy, can use itunes for my PC if I wish.

Stability - Can see where you are coming from.

Notifications - stolen by apple.

Overall they both have their good and bad points and its down to personal preference. as with most things in life.

Is it me but the front glass of the 4S seems artifically thin like its be cropped badly? Or that the whole side image has been slightly shrunk (doesnt look as tall either)

Im sure its just the poor quality of the pics as they are used for the website

The Desire HD is many things (Its my old phone before it died), but feeling well built isn't one of them. Well, compared to a HTC Wildfire it feels well built i suppose. But it feels cheap compared to the 3gs I'm using currently let alone the IP4 =/

Dont think developers being lazy on Android is going to change - very little incentive to do anything specifically for Android as its just not as profitable. Indeed if I was a iOS developer Id love the extra power Android platform gives, as Id just port everything over to it without any real need to make it efficient. Thats not an opinion thats gonna change til Google start aggressively cleaning house...

Think Robbo was referring to iTunes as the complete service (buying/renting media etc...), not just the conduit to connect your PC to your phone...
