********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

Ah right.

With the Apple Website saying "from £499" I would guess it's going to be:

SIM-Free (Unlocked)
  • £499 16GB
  • £599 32GB
  • £699 64GB

£700 for a Phone is just mental! Was chatting with mates about it earlier (they're all Android fanboys ) and they were all surprised to find out that for more storage you have to pay Apple $$$ at the time of purchases, that you can't just stick a bigger SD card in it.

they make sense don't they :)

I'm pretty sure most people won't need 64GB, it's just an option for people that have loads of music, etc.

However, having the 32GB version would annoy me, so I'd have to get the 64GB one.

:p

Analysts not impressed....and that's one of the kinder ones I found.....

The way I see it is other companies might have better spec but its almost like owning a PC and a console

They have done a lot more with the power of the iphone (console) and more developers will build things for iphones because they are more popular.

Usually I prefer a PC, but I have my PC for that. With a phone, I just want it to be reliable and work. Install and try a few new games and apps and never have to format it, reinstall drivers etc etc

16gb will do for me I think

I dont watch videos or listen to music on my iphone. Just apps and a few games

I call BS on anyone who says they can comfortably touch the far side of their 4.3" screen with their thumb without smushing their palm across the opposite corner of the screen.

I can on my Galaxy S II, seriously. It's not as comfortable to do as it is on the iPhone but it's easily possible and my palm doesn't touch the screen.

I think I'll pick up the 32GB edition.

I'm tempted to pick up the 16GB edition and get a kindle / iPad as well.

I've got 16gb iphone 4 and still have 8gb left.

Songs - 146
Videos - 12
Photos - 195
Apps - 45

Capacity 14.0gb
Available 8.1gb

16gb is plenty for a phone normally, unless you plan on holding many many songs and videos. The apps take up little space.

Is it even worth going above 16gb when you can access everything via the cloud?

Yes and no. iCloud is going to save space for things like pictures but for video/music it's going to be more data-heavy and that could create problems given how poor the networks are in places and how small most data plans are.

Nor do I.

However, Apple have to think of it like this.

If we don't use a 4.3" screen, how many customers will we lose because of it?

If we do use a 4.3" screen, how many customers will we gain?

For a single device, 4" is the sweet spot provided it is designed correctly.

Google haven't got it patented.

Why don't they just provide two versions of the phone and let their customers decide which screen size they want? god forbid Apple gives people a choice.

Here's the pricing as shown on the Apple Store iPhone app, I grabbed the image this morning.

People keep asking where the prices are confirmed, I couldn't see them on the Apple website but it's clear enough from the app.

That's obviously the sim free and unlocked price.

Release day (or rather, month++) drama!
Its annoying enough traveling around to find that 16gb/32gb version to find everywhere only the other one is in stock! add screen size into the mix and well

Some apps take up very little space, but there are lots of games that are over 1GB in size.

FIFA 2011 is 1.7GB. So actually apps can use up space very quickly if you play games on it.

146 songs?
That's pitiful! :p

I don't want to carry around my entire library with me, but I do want a good selection of albums that I enjoy, which is why I've filled my old 16gb up.

I'm trying to decide what to go for though with the 4S.
I've got a 64GB iPad and unless I put my entire music library on it, that would be difficult to fill.

I reckon 32GB is probably the safe bet, because I've used 16GBs on my current phone and just a bit more music would be nice to have with me.

I think even more important though is that I can't decide whether I want the black or white phone!

Is it even worth going above 16gb when you can access everything via the cloud?

You can't access everything if your phone is full though. iCloud is essentially just a backup of your data, the content still needs to be on your phone in order to use it. If your phone is full and you want to copy something over from the cloud then you're still going to have delete stuff from your phone first.

So iCloud is not a good solution to lack of storage space.
