**** preordering a sim free i4S, I'm gonna wait until the carriers release contract details first, then decide whether its worth an upgrade from my current i4

It doesnt say 8am tomorrow...

'Available in store at 8:00 a.m. on October 14.'

I believe he is referring to where various sites have reported that pre-orders go live at 12:01AM on one of the US time zones, which has been reported as 07:01 GMT, but with British Summer Time, it may likely be 08:01AM... and yes, it is tomorrow.

What are people's opinions on Three as a network? I'm looking at moving to them from O2 for their awesome data plans, but wondering what their coverage is really like. Any thoughts?

Well I know their coverage is good at my house, we ordered a PAYG sim to test it, but I was just wondering about general coverage across the country. In all fairness I'll be moving to them anyway.

3 are definately worse than o2 in London (City). Additionally 3 reception does struggle moreso than the other frequency band indoors. However, when it's good (mainly notice it on the train), it's far better than o2 for 3g data.

was on 3 when i first got iphone 4
1. customer service is terrible ( india ) dont know if it still is
2. 3g coverage in chester area wasnt that great, even though the map said it was excellent
3. the thing that made me terminate within 14 days was, the app store went down for about 2 days ( 3 related ) and they seemed so blahzey about it, and getting it fixed didnt seem top of their agenda

so over to O2 i went, never looked back

Coverage is subjective. Three are fine as a network.

It's subjective to a degree. Obviously it depends exactly where you are but there's also the factor that only Vodafone and O2 use the 900Mhz band, which is much better at propagating through things than is the 1800Mhz band used by the others (and Vodafone/O2 themselves).

What this means in practise is you'll often find reception inside buildings is better with O2 or Vodafone and my own experience bears this out. I've lost count of how many times I've failed to get any kind of 3G signal with Orange inside a building when others on O2 or Vodafone are fine.

When the digital TV switchover is completed, the 800Mhz band will be opened up for the mobile operators which should improve the situation, but the 'other' networks are currently arguing that they deserve more spectrum allocation to redress the balance with Vodafone and O2, whilst Voda/O2 are saying any favouritism would amount to state aid which they'd challenge legally. Could get messy.

I've never really had any problems with Orange but I think I will move to 3 this time, the whole backwards move to limited internet just seems daft when 3 offer over 3 x as many minutes totally unlimited data, free tethering and the phone costs £60 less (based on the 4)
I'm at a loss as to why orange think I might choose them.

The issue with networks is it all depends on who you ask.

If you ask me, I'll tell you O2 are the best, and Vodafone aren't so good.

I'll tell you T-Mobile are better than Orange, and Three are pretty good too.

If you ask someone else, they may say the exact opposite, it's just one of those things.

My orange signal shifts between them and T-Mobile, who ever has the strongest signal at the time.

But i see network carriers a bit like banks, it depends who you talk to as everone has different opinions!
