********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

Get an iphone 4s 16gb (especially if its £399 instead of £499)

I would be taking it out on contract, so it would be cheaper, just need to decide if I should go for 18 or 24 (24 months 16GB would be free if paying £30 a month (would be £40 without discount)

The price of the i4 will be dropping, along with the 3GS

Is this confirmed? If I wait I run the risk of only getting an 8GB or the discount finishing when the 4s is released.

Orange are still offering 25% off the line rental to local government employees, but from speaking to Orange sales assistant today he doesn't believe the offer will be available on the 4s. (When the 4 originally came out, the offer wasn't on new contracts buying an iPhone 4)
He's manipulating you - when it first came out it wasn't on any iPhone. After O2 launched their scheme, which include everything, Orange copied them and their scheme was updated to "now include iPhone". The fact this happened with the 4 is a coincidence, and not reflective of the fact it was a newly launched device. It will be on 4S I'm sure.

whats the prices for sim free?

I don't have a source in the UK, but if you're that set on getting an i4 then check eBay, the prices will have fallen by now.

Personally, I would go for the 18 month contract, in 24 months, Apple will have released the 5s or some other varient

Ok, Thanks for this, I may wait until the 4s is out and see what is available.

Don't hold me to it, but I think I'm right.

I'll let you know my progress as I'll be badgering Orange too. 25% discount makes me smile, even if they can't compete tariff wise with 3.

24 months, the Phone is for free, at £30 a month (with discount)
18 months the phone is £169, at £30 a month (with discount)

I quoted this exact same argument to one of my anti-Apple, Android mates the other day and he just said it was a stupid reason. I'd like to think it is these reasons though.

I'm happy with the current size of the screens. I've seen the SGS2 in the flesh and that looks far too big for my liking. I don't feel the need why everything needs to be bigger than everything that came before it. My eyesight isn't that great but I'm not blind either. It's not like 10"+ tablets or 32"+ TVs are going away any time soon to watch content on
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind a larger screen, although I'm not too bothered with the current size. I don't think I'd want the phone itself to be any bigger though.

Can you send me an email (email in trust) may miss the post in the thread, as it's updated a lot.

Which phone?

30*24 = £720

If you get the 64gb model with that contract then great stuff. If you get the 16gb then not so good

I have a contract already but might consider getting a new one if it covers the handset price (£500/£600/£700)

Where are you seeing 16gb IPhone 4 for £399. I'd rather have a 4 tbh for myself and I can't stomach apples prcing on the 8GB version.

Even a reputable ebay buyer if one exists for a new one :)

I am referring to the iPhone 4 here:
With discount on Orange:
iphone 4 16GB 18 months:
700 minutes 500 texts 3GB Web +Sat Nav with orange Maps and 50 Photo messaging
£169.99

or

iphone 4 16GB 18 months:
900 minutes 500 texts 3GB Web
£169.99

24 months as above phone is free

Don't guess contract prices based on the current iPhone 4 prices. You have to use the prices that were in place when it launched.

Nowhere is going to do a 16GB 4S for free on a £30 per month contract, they only started doing that with the iPhone 4 recently.

- Keep it at Retina levels, meaning we'd have an irregular new size and all apps would need to be resized
No they wouldnt need to be resized, since the resolution wouldnt be changed so still 1:1 pixels, just with bigger pixels - we worked out a while ago that a 3.7" screen with the existing resolution would still maintain Retina levels (>300ppi). Such a sized screen would still fit into the existing form factor:

Horizontal resolution: 960 pixels
Vertical resolution: 480 pixels
Diagonal: 3.7 inches (9.4cm)

Display size: 3.08" × 2.05" (7.82cm × 5.21cm) = 311.83 PPI, 0.0815mm dot pitch, 97239 PPI²

Just done a bit of research into UK pricing, Sim free iPhones 4S - 16GB for £399, 32GB for £579 64GB for £659. This is unconfirmed though.

Sorry but where is this info coming from? Why are they advertising £499 for the 16GB if you think it will be £399?
