** The AMD Navi Thread **

As a product, it's not bad, but at that price, it's shocking. It's Ferrari money for a family hatchback, a burger at the cost of aged steak. I know AMD want to push price/profits up, but you can only do that when you can provide the performance. I hope Navi is going to be sensibly priced, because coming out with an £800 aircooled version and £1000 water-cooled version simply prices many people out of being an AMD customer, especially if your competition is faster and cheaper.

With the RRP in mind, Vega 56 is well priced in my opinion and the Vega 64 is overpriced but not by a massive amount. When they become available in numbers and hit these RRPs they should be decent, not great though.

Vega 56 is priced just about okay. They needed to come in at around £299 though imo with Vega 64 being £399. If they managed that they would have had a much better reception. I really liked the Vega 64 AIO which is the best looking card I have ever seen. Was close to pull the trigger, but they priced it silly and only offered 2 years warranty.

I have never minded AMD not having the top performance as they always priced their products well. Now they do not do that either :(

Hopefully they get their act together with Navi.

I can't deny that at all, I even picked up a second hand 1080Ti, but still I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people make it sound. The important thing to me is that we still have two choices of competition at all, the last thing we need is a monopoly.

Agreed. I am not happy Nvidia are so ahead. I want a competitive market so we all benefit from getting better products and better prices. But as I play at 4K I have no choice but to go Nvidia. If I gamed at 1440p and had a Freesync monitor already however I would have gone Vega 56 as that does a good job for that resolution.

Maybe I'm getting you mixed up. Got my eye on you tho sunshine. Got my eye on you ;)

So Poor voltage=Poor volta and people are relieved Vega isn't as fast as Volta. Saying Poor Volta is Kool.
Maybe you are confusing me with Gregster or something? :p

@Gregster - Sorry Gregster :p;):D

Funny enough I have a 1440p Freesync monitor and had a 390X. I didn't see enough of a boost to pay ~£400 for so i paid a little extra and got this 1080Ti. I don't miss freesync with this massive boost in power.

Retailers are saying its not the short supply its just that the pricing from the manufacturer doesnt enable them to sell at RRP and they've needed rebates from AMD to hit them, which they now seem to have stopped doing. So basically the price reduction needs to be supported by AMD.

I am sure AMD have said that this isn't the case and that the RRP will be honoured going forward.

But isn't the rumour that they're making virtually nothing on Vega at these prices? How can they be kings of VFM if doing so requires selling at a loss? That would be madness.

I think they've painted themselves into a corner by insisting on going full bore down the HBM route, this is proving to be a costly decision and doesn't even seem to be showing any performance gains over GDDR up to yet.

So they've thrown away one of their main unique selling points.

As a consumer, I don't care if they've got their price/performance or profit margins wrong. It's not my job to prop up a company's excessive prices when there are alternatives that perform better and cost less. Sure, AMD don't want to sell at a loss (until it's a choice between that and not selling at all), but that just means they've created a product that doesn't have a place in the market landscape. They have to make products that people want at prices they are willing to pay.

The AMD nut. Yeah I remember him and his stupid Sig. Surprised he's not band TBH. No I meant the Nvidia focus group. Bunch of clowns.

Appologys. You just never know nowadays.

I was thinking that myself, it's turning into an episode of Jeremy Kyle.

Back to Navi, if they can master the infinity fabric links between gpus and manage to shove 3 Polaris 10 cores at 7nm on one board it would still be mighty impressive. Complete speculation of course but it would be good to see.
