I wonder what Powercolor have done with that custom PCB? And I wonder if the performance is worth the premium over a reference 5700XT and EK block?

Slower and more power hungry then a 1660 despite a new architecture and smaller process.........
That's a pretty pathetic showing. We can only hope it's because it's the OEM version.
I don't know man. They did it with the Radeon 4870 about 10 years ago when they were being slaughtered by the GTX 8800.Progress takes time. You can't just pull an architecture that makes monumental jumps every time you're behind. Any progress is good progress and it's in everyone's interest to have at least 2 players in the game.
It'll depend on price and whether drivers can improve things too.
It shows that this is the lower end of he range, not quite beating a 580.
The 5700 series is quite telling as the midrange cards, pushed quite hard they are performing well. But really it is the next ones the 5800 series that we all want to see.

I guess they are just severely out spent on R&D right now and are just way too behind. That was one of the few reasons why I went G-Sync a few years ago as AMD really fell behind when it comes to high end. They can't even keep up when on a better process.
Let's see what RDNA2 brings to the table. Hopefully it is a decent jump in performance, but I am not holding my breath.

We've seen AMD comprehensively "wipe the floor" with INTEL with their latest CPUs, just hoping we see them do the same in the GPU space with NVIDIA, it's a tall ask but absolutely vital for competition (pricing)
I feel 2020 is going to be AMDs year, INTEL have no response for their CPU, with SONY and Microsoft both using AMD in their consoles I can only see them going from strength to strength.
I do think AMD might have missed a trick not implementing their "chiplet/infinity fabric" design in the GPU space, maybe that will come in time.
Coreteks said on a podcast with Good Old Gamer that he received information that AMD wanted to initaily retail the RX5500 at...$249. It was only when board partners refused to produce cards as they feared it would just result in large unsold stockpiles that AMD relented.
