The AMD R9 290 (non x) Thread

Okay, i've been logging my gaming habits on GPU-Z. In Fifa 14, the GPU is regularly pulling 180-200W and there's no issue.

In Batman AC it pulls anything from 75-125W, with peaks at 150W, yet it's not stable.

I'm starting to think the drivers are at fault here.

What driver you using? If its 13.11 Beta9.2 try the one on your disc that came with the card

What make of card you got?

Just got my card!! very happy. Yeah its a little loud but not as bad as people have been making out. It is less so than the hd 7990.

Hows the performance difference in comparison to the 7990?

I said I wouldn't but new shiny and all that, had thought of going green but idk if I can stomach the £80+ price difference and I have a spare AC Extreme.:D

I also have Sapphire and using 13.11 Beta9.2 and have had 1 crash in bf4 today
could be because of game/driver dont really know some times when I open core temp it
will lock machine up have to reboot

well a single 290 is slower than the 7990 seeing as the 7990 is a dual gpu.

Just to warn people I have had a weekend of testing all my new parts because the screen would just go blank no bluescreen or crash just blank in windows and if I start something like minecraft it would do the same sometimes after 15-20mins other time after getting in to windows 5-10seconds

Anyhow it was the graphics card drivers I used the new beta ones from amd so Before doing a rma I thought to my self install the drivers off the disc and bing go no crash for 45mins so far and even ran 3DMark without a problem and even minecraft didn't crash it.

So if your having crashing problems just the driver off ur disc till amd sort out there stuff
All I have to do is reinstall 8.1 now as I install 7 just to rules that out :)

Ps my model is the gigabyte 290

blank screen seems to be a common issue for many.
any driver should work if they designad for the card.
I would rma as I have zero tolerance for such.

not the driver, its the ram voltage.
either a bad batch or the voltage isnt done right for the ram on the elpida.
either way, if it does this I would rma as noted, zero tolerance.

Okay so went back to drivers off the disk and I get black screen and PC either locks on it or shuts down. PSU? or dodgy card?

Gutted as I've spent weeks waiting to buy a new card to replace my broken SLI set up.

List of things to do,
flash latest bios MB.
check psu and even try different cables.
try it in another computer if possible.
try a different pci-e slot.
change pci-e 2.0 to 3.0 if doable etc..

I'm confused :(

My system:

4770K @ 4.5GHz
16GB RAM
R9 290 @ 1100/1350

I get roughly 57 fps in BF4 in a 32+ person game at 1440p ultra, but my Fire Strike score is 2273. How is that possible? The 3DMark results page lists my graphics card as "Generic VGA".

EDIT #1: I tried BF4 again and was getting 15 FPS. I rebooted and it's now running at 60+ FPS again. Re-running 3DMark now :)

EDIT #2: My Fire Strike score is now 10088. Chuffed!
