I picked up a 42mm SS today. I was at someone else's desk and left my phone on my own. Got an urgent text message and scribbled a reply via the watch. It was very seamless! Whether the watch is worth it is another matter but I can see it being very useful.

Seems odd so many of you are thinking of sending it back, as its a large update.
Larger battery, GPS, water proof, brighter screen for readability outside, much faster chip.
I ended up yesterday on my original watch with around 25% battery remaining and it wasn't an especially busy day, I only had the workout app running for about half an hour. Today I'm back on the new one.
Larger battery - Clearly this is important now. See above.
GPS was going to be the 'essential' add-on for me but I'm very rarely out without my phone. I've just got a Garmin for the bike so I won't be using Strava or the workout app when I go for a ride.
Waterproof - Irrelevant for me, I don't swim.
Brighter screen - Again, not that important. I never had any issues with readability on the old one.
Much faster chip - Not noticeable when opening apps in the dock but this does seem to make a big difference with non docked apps.

So I'm still undecided. The battery itself may make me keep the new one. I still have until next Friday to decide.

I can't decide whether to get a Series 2 or a Series 1. I don't really ever go anywhere without my phone so I'm guessing the GPS isn't much use to me and I don't swim. Any other differences to be aware of other than the brighter screen? It's the same CPU but is it the same battery?

different chip (might just be the gps disabled) and bigger battery. what these are we don't know until someone strips it down which I haven't seen yet but someone might of.
although everyones expecting it to be marginal as they didn't shout from the roof tops at the conference. oh and its also slightly thicker.

if the battery isn't massively bigger(which it isn't, both say up to 18hrs, i expect slight boost to compensate for display) then I probably wont get one, less than a days battery isn't acceptable to me. I hope someone else jumps on the hiking app on a smart watch.

I'm confused, I thought there were 3 models. Original 2015 model, single core. Then 2016 Series 1 and Series 2, both dual core, with new battery, but series 2 is water resistant and has GPS. I'm not wrong am I?

Just an FYI

I did a Sportive yesterday. Partnered with my phone (so it would have used the GPS in the phone) my Series 0 kept track for the 7 hours I was out on the bike. I am sure the new one in isolation wouldn't track for that long but for anyone concerned about battery life as a fitness tracker.

Yeah i've noticed that too, wasn't sure if it was just me. Hopefully an update will sort it. I suspect its due to the always updated apps.

I also have the original Apple Watch and to be honest if it's just how it has to be with all the background updates I can live with it. Still makes it through a day and I would rather it be useable which I think watch os 3 helps with quite a bit.

Only series 2 has the larger battery as far as I know. the 2 dual core CPUs have different names. But they might be the same just without the gps. We need a taredown. And some proper test reviews of battery life
etc

Need longer, I want it for thru hiking, where you're walking like 0 hours a day for a week to many weeks at a time. Now obviously any device will need charging. But to not even last a whole day is not very good. Its just the first device I've seen with hiking capabilities, I hope others follow. As was very excited till I heard about battery life. Even on website its maximum of 18hrs and I expect that's with GPS turned off.

Original (Series 0) - single core
Series 1 - dual core
Series 2 - dual core

Series 2 has GPS.
I think that's about it.

Cheers - thats what I thought! Agree we need to know if battery is any different in between the 2 current models. Generally, in makes me think a series 1 will do for me as I'll always have my phone for GPS and I don't swim.

Apple Watch 38mm, splash resistance IPX7, 205mah 38mm, 450nit screen
Apple Watch series 1 3 8mm, splash resistance IPX7 , 450nit screen, doesn't come with a power brick. plastic back unless you go ceramic case.
Apple Watch series 2 38mm, 273mah 50m of water for 10minutes, 1000 nit screen, ceramic back on all models. not only brighter less gap between display and glass.

Classic Buckle, Leather Loop, Modern Buckle, Milanese, and Link Bracelet Bands aren't water resistant

ipx 7
Suitable:
Splashes
Rain or snow
Showering
Incidental exposure to water of up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes

step count accurate on all watches, same resistance across the ion screens and even more on sapphire. heart rate accurate as well. series 1 and two are a fair bit faster than the original. cpu speed of 1 and 2 seem to be the same minus gps.

all I've found atm. cant find a series 1 tear down.
I'm guessing series 1 has the original battery but due to brighter screen and occasional gps use, they will all last about the same time. and would account why the series 2 is 1mm thicker.

42mm Watch Series 1 turned up. Coming from an LG Urbane and Android this just works so much better. It's easier to use and more feature packed. Much faster scrolling around through notifications too. Just a pity it doesn't look as good :(

I picked up a 42mm aluminium series 2 at the weekend. I haven't had much change to play with it yet but so far I'm really liking it. The way I can reply to messages using the scribble thing is excellent.
