To be fair if Greg is running his CPU @ 5Ghz whilst playing this I'd say it's possible to break 60fps minimum. Just...maybe.


It's not completely unbelievable anyway

But on the flip side if you're playing the game just leave Fraps running for the entirety. It's not like it's a hardship lol

I will get Mrs Greg to record me playing tonight and show the game settings and play like I would do every day of the week. My upload speed is 70k, so this could take a while to upload but to stop all this nonsense, it will be worth doing.

I am sure there will be something in the game that I did/didn't do that will nullify the results but at least the people who are interested can see for themselves.

I only had that 'low memory' message when i hit Fraps for recording.. not had it since i changed my Samsung Magician optimized setting of Virtual Memory..

Inital size : 200MB
Maximum size : 1024MB < I put this up to 2048MB

It could be because im running Ultra 1440p and using 2.6gb of vram maybe then? Other than that no idea. All i know is for the moment i need a silly high page file.

If I was buying today, I would go for the 780 without question but worth waiting it out to see proper bench results for the 290X.

It seems this thread and frankly every thread that has benchmarks in it is either biased/wrong/not long enough/not in a tank/in a tank/looking at the sky/looking at the ground, so can't be used.

You realise he doesn't mean in real life, right?

The biggest explosions are all gpu bound so a hyper fast cpu is not going to make a difference in that scenario.

As we can see from the Gamegpu graph a 7990's minimum fps in BF4 are much higher than a titan in BF4. Yet even the 7990 will see that sort of drop during those intense explosions. I find it hard to believe a titan won't see that as well. Of course it will.

I'm sure for 99.9% of the time it will be above that though obviously. But this is worst case scenario here. Your Titan SLI results showed this as well frosty. Yet for the most part you were averaging stonkingly high fps.

I just accept that there are times where the game will throw a lot at you, especially when there are 63 other people connected throwing god knows what about. It's all about the average . I doubt I've ever noticed the minimum mark whilst playing

I'm not disputing your results Greg based on how you play. I'm saying in every situation. If you have covered these situations and you still don't drop below 60 then fair enough. I just find it odd when faster multi gpu setups, 7990, titan SLI etc show drops in these moments but your single titan does not.

Those really intense moments where fps can drop for a short while normally include standing next to the sky scraper building as it collapses, watching it fall down and standing there where dust fills the map. Being inside a tank that gets c4'd, blown up by another tank etc. Aiming down the tanks sights zoomed in whilst battling with another tank at close range etc etc.

I know full well I can't hold 60 fps but from my 5 minute bench runs in this game (which is now 4), they have all shown to be above 57. If this isn't an indication of general gameplay, then let's be honest and never use a bench mark for any game. They are mostly used as guidelines and could be a basis of what to expect. If this isn't acceptable, then I have no idea what to say.

Wow frametimes all over the shop with this patch. Also a lower minimum of 35!

All settings maxed out as usual.

Also GPU usage down to around 80% on all 3 cards from 90-98% in previous game version. Not sure what's going on there lol. Seems I was quick to jump the gun...

VRAM Usage stayed at 1980MB this time round - although it varies from game to game - so not saying it's an indication of tweaks but still.

That's fine Greg but you need to read what i said with my original comment. You took it out of context. My original comment stands and is correct but you took that as i was accusing you of lying. As i said i never doubt that in your 5 minute runs your results are accurate. I'm talking about the bigger picture in all situations. I don't believe one single card has the grunt to maintain 55-60fps at all times.

I don't believe you'll find a single card currently (290X or a titan) that in all situations at 1080p or higher at the highest details will be able to keep minimum FPS at 55 or over at all times. Maybe with a more polished game or drivers its possible but not currently. The game is pretty hard on gpu's atm.

Its fear of the unknown I think, I only plan on playing at 1080p 60hz and the smoothness and low input lag is most important to me and I don't want to loose any of that by going 2 cards.

Because either way a minimum of 38 and average of 110+ would suggest not a lot of time spent at 38 FPS. It could well have been a serve spike or anything.

3DMark,Heaven etc cover all aspects of intensity within a small time frame which isnt gona be possible on a manual run in BF4. Thats why its better to just do at least half a round to a full round.

Fair shout and I can't comment as I have never used CF. It does seem from others it is very smooth.

The problem with this game for Titans is it is not demanding enough and also still needs optimising.

When I use all 4 it is no better than using 2

Using 3 is a bit better than 2 but could be better.

I am expecting the same thing to happen with 290Xs until things are optimised.

Fair enough. As i say though i know what the worst effects of this game can do to minimum fps, even if its just for a brief second. Obviously for 99.9% of the time its fine, but that was my point anyway.
