***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

No because when you play, you are watching the top left only. Try looking at the middle of the screen for things that look like people in uniforms and press the left mouse button a lot when they are in the center of the screen :D

That's what I have been doing wrong, all I seem to see is high yellow numbers and red spots.:D
 
The trouble is, most users are saying their GPU's are being held back on i5's. Even chatting to players in game, regardless of AMD or Nvidia, they are reporting terrible frames per second and the CPU is running at 100%. I wouldn't make any move to upgrade till the official release but it is looking like CPU's are being pushed hard in games and not just sitting their at 30% on 2 cores whilst the GPU does all the work.

Yep and my i5 is at 100% with both cores on my 7990 at 40% usage resulting in rubberised fps, so yes THIS beta is causing quadcores to bottleneck a GPU. All my freinds are reporting the same. What I'm saying is that the first beta release isnt the full game and you cant base recommendations on 3 days of beta 1.0 and say that the full retail release will require the same as beta 1.0

But yes, at the momenti7's are fairing (for some reason) better than i5. It's the opposite of the BF3 release where you had to turn OFF hyperthreading to make BF3 work.

Thanks for telling me what I told you. I did say I wouldn't make any move to upgrade till the official release, so not sure why you repeated to me what I said? Anyways, whilst we are here on this subject....Regardless of being a beta or not, do you think they will get the CPU usage massively down in the full release? I personally feel they may a little but I think this is roughly it. Game runs very nicely on my 3930K.

Tried having a game just now, started it like normal, double click desktop icon, but instead of taking me to battlelog to find a server, it's dumping me on a preorder BF4 page on battlelog:confused:

Reckons the game isn't installed?, tried repairing, no issues found..not changed anything and it was working fine last night.

Servers are down aren't they due to the changeover to the open beta?
 
^the issue was the same in bf3 though not as severe. Fairly sure a recent high clocked i5 bottlenecked a pair of 7950's in bf3 to the tune of ~80% per card. Same situation, stuttering, frame spikes etc...This is why I'm fully expecting the same thing on bf4 release, the cpu handles a fair bit of the load and the cards can only work as hard as the cpu will allow, which stops as soon as all threads are maxed out.

So don't expect miracles on release, this isn't a brand new engine built from the ground up, its the evolution of an existing engine in frostbite.

I'll try the ht on/off thing tonight and try create a bottleneck though it may be tricky with a single 780.

I think i7s are the way to go for gaming, even if the devs get BF4 to run on an i5 it is only a short term fix. The problems people are having with i5s at the moment with BF4 are a sign of the times as to where gaming is going.
 
Sorry didnt mean to sound like i was repeating what you said. Too early for me didnt engage brain properly.

Will they get the CPU usage down massively? Half of me wants the game to require more cores or hyperthreading in the name of progression where game developers move on and make use of top end hardware. The other half and tyhis is what I 'think' is that if the specs released by EA say recommebnded = i5 then I think it will. For beta 1.0 which was the server stress test essentially (and I dont know how to stress test servers or how teh game talks to the clients, but wouldnt it require lots of extra physics info I/O to the server to stress it? And cleverly they have released teh beta to work the clients CPU's to max this out to stress their servers. Plus also the message telling many on teh PC that you need to upgrade to an i7 - that to me would stifle sales a bit and put people off. But in the name of moving forward and an i5 owner I'd welcome it. I wont bet on it - as losing would only make an i7 purchase more expensive!

4670k 4.7ghz cant say I have any issues.
also, if Mantle change the load and bottlenecks we might have a funny situation.
runs decent for me at my resolution.

the netcode improvement and destruction makes it with a great map 100times better than BF3 ever was.

Agree completely. I've been saying this for a while and avoiding recommending i5s for that very reason. When games need 8 threads running in sync with minimal latency, an overclocked i5 isn't going to manage it. People are asking for specs for BF4 and they're still being told to get a 4670K.

64 player,. multiplayer, cpu heavy, not much to do about it until Mantle might change it a bit.
BF4 isnt just a fps game like COD or CS or such, its a battlefield :)

beta older client, so should improve to retail

Are you running one or more GPUs?

Mantle may make things even worse, by allowing the GPU to hit even higher fps and putting more stress on the CPU.

Since mention of AMD getting the console deal, it has long been touted that we will now see better use of cores on our CPU's and it was only a matter of time before we see this happen. It has come a little quicker than I was expecting in truth but about time. Watch Dogs is looking like it will follow suit and I see no reason why more and more will not go this route.

As for the servers, I have no idea what Dice/EA were intending, so I can't really comment on that.
