The Countdown Has Begun...... Fallout 3

I played this game 60+ hours since it came out, exploring and doing as many sub quests as possible alongside the main quests but since I peaked at level 20 I pretty much stopped playing the game completely. I was totally addicted but then lost all appetite, and after getting the explorer perk and seeing where everything was on the map I lost my feel for adventure aswell.

I hope to get back on it this week to finish it off but I just wish the level cap had been higher. I wanted to end up with my stats all maxed, perhaps i could get close if I found every Book and Bobblehead but I doubt I'll bother.

there's a mod out that increases the level cap, there's a thread somewhere on the mods so far. i'll see if i can find it (or maybe some other helpful person will)

Yes, there are several, the disadvantage is that if you are evil you get stuck on the level up screen.

Oh dear won't work for me then! I'm terribly evil unfortunately. :D
Me too, I am level 20 and a Scourge of Humanity

I guess it would be possible to cheat and change the Karma but if you are evil just before going to level 21 you get stuck again so I decided to just leave it for now.

And also that it resets you back to 0% neutral when you pass level 20. I was going to use this mod but I didn't like the thought of all my good deeds and hard work being for nowt, even though I could probably use a code to get it back up to where I was...sad I know :p

I just hit lv20 on my character and got the unlock all map locations perk (any one choose a different perk?) Im also no where near completing the game, just exploring loads of different areas to gain some special items :) got 7 bobbleheads so far and maxed my sneak, small guns, repair, lockpick skills

seems a lot of people seem to prefer big guns, i stick to using the special 10mm submachine gun you get from the girl at the museum if she dies, or hunting rifle as it can pretty much kill in 2 shots. :P

I took Grim Reaper's Sprint, great for taking out a bunch of people in quick succession :D

But then I am also using the lvl30 cap mod

I used this mod (although there are afew level cap increaser mods) and it kept my karma as it was

I increased it to 30 and I just reached that cap as I finished the game, 72 hours.

Just got this game yesterday, must say i am blown away by it. I cannot believe the choices you get to make.

Im very new to RPG :D

I can see this game occupying me for a long time to come yet!

well.. maintaining not being evil will be a problem :(
but i usually give all my purified water to the bums outside the megaton or rivet. so my karma goes back to good

finding all the bobbleheads is a pain, just got my 8th one :P

I think i need to read the manual a bit, keep getting killed by chaingunning mutants in the wasteland or walking crabs that I just can't kill whilst trying to find 'the family'. Cant repair anything either, might have to go back to megaton and do a bit more exploring for stuff etc?

What weapon are you using?
Repair is dependent on your repair skill, if that is low you can't repair efficiently.

well I now have loads of weapons, and managed to up my repair skill a bit :)
too many weapons though and always getting encumbered lol got several shotties, chaingun, lasergun, mininuke (?). Though I would wander a bit and got killed by 3 ladies, one with a flamethrower! think ill resume and go and find the family as i keep getting distracted by other things

Anyone have a definitive list of Fallout 3 mods? I'm picking this up on PC in a few days and having already completed it on 360 am after playing with some mods :)

Also if you install mods does that affect the Windows Live Achievements?

Bought yesterday afternoon, and loving it. However, two things are driving me MENTAL.

1. I snapped the lockpick early on. Can I find another one? NO. Will one turn up eventually, or am I missing something here?

2. The computer terminals, labelled as 'easy' to bypass. Easy are they! Must just be a dullard or something, but I can't get to the bottom of what I am supposed to be doing...

Lockpicks are bobby pins (hair pins) they are found in first aid boxes (oddly enough) or you can buy them. You do have to be quite gentle with them or they will break. Only move (left and right keys) slightly, if there is any resistance (noise) stop and move the mouse a bit, keep repeating until it opens.

Computer terminals are like the old game of mastermind. It will tell you how many letters in your guess are correct. If you get to three and don't know turn off the computer and start again (th word will change unfortunately). When you have used two guesses up go though all of the characters which are not words. If there are any bracketed together they will highlight and either gt rid of a word option or rest you four attempts. Brackets can be:-

() or <> or []

So in a line like this:-

[*{>>>%$%£%

There is nothing of use, but this:-

[*{><>%$%£%

or this:-

[*{<<<%$%£]

Are both good (bold and red for help).

If the above is completely insulting your inteligene I apologise but it took me a while to get the hang of it! :D

i was exactly the same! you'll start to get the lockpicks (they're called bobby pins) fairly regularly, or you'll get good enough at lockpicking not to break them! they're scattered everywhere, there's no one place where I found the most unfortunately.

there's also a knack to the computers, when you select a phrase it tells you how many letters you have right in the password (1 of 5 for example), you then need to guess at what the rest are, or by process of elimination deduce which is the correct answer.

if you hover over some of the garbage letters <,"!^^> etc, (look for the ones enclosed in brackets) they will remove duds or reset your allowance. i basically choose 1 phrase, then generally the exact opposite, you'd be amazed how many I've lucky guessed! if you get 4 wrong it will lock you out, do 3 guesses, close it, then go back in (you'll have to start the guessing again though).

you'll get the hang of it :)
