The Countdown Has Begun...... Fallout 3

Im been exploring for sometime now, but im having 1 problem, im finding it hard to pick lock? any1 got any tips how i ment to pick locks.

Thanks

I'm loving this game at the moment, trying to avoid the main quest as much as possible so doing some random exploring. Saw a church in the distance so made my way towards it but got sidetracked by the roosevelt buildings, am currently clearing my way through them at the moment. Best RPG i've played for a long long time.

Stick the bobby pin in the lock, press left, if it stops release left immidiately, move the pin and try again until it opens, NEVER force a lock.

Quicksave before trying and if you break too much pins load and try again.

To pick locks, move the mouse to pick a starting angle. Keep the mouse still and tap whatever key you have bound to left. If the pin vibrates change the angle of the pin and tap the left key again, you'll soon hit a spot where it doesnt vibrate instantly. Tap the left key so the lock moves a bit then drops back, then moves a bit more, keep this up until it opens or startes vibrating in which case stop tapping the left key and make a minor adjustment in the angle and try again. When the lock turns 90 degrees it will open.

Might not be the textbook way of doing it but i never snap pins like this.

That's how I do it also.

One additional thing; the 'ideal angle' will always be one of a limited set of angles.

For 'very easy' locks, the angle will always be vertical, or 1/8 turn either side (ie -45, 0 or 45 degrees)
For 'easy' locks this is sub-divided (-67.5 -45, -22.5, 0, 22.5, 45 67.5 degrees)

... for medium, hard and very hard locks this is subdivided once again. Once you get to hard and very hard, this isn't too useful, but on easy and very easy locks you can usually just try a limited set of descrete locations.

Would anyone be kind enough to advise me on the location of 'the family'.

Whatisface on the bridge tells you the few locations where they may be. I've explored all of those locations (unless I'm missing something)...

Ah, now I new that this may be the reply! I did go down there this evening. Killed a couple of Mirelurks, disabled some bear traps, picked up some frag mines, and popped out the other end in an old train yard in the wasteland.

I must be missing something down there?! I'll go back and have another look.

EDIT - Plainly I just wasn't looking hard enough down in the metro...found them. Thanks for the pointer.

Got to say that now I am level 20 and have 100 in both sneak and small guns and also the 50% critical hit perk I am loving the one shot kills!

Last night I went on a very quiet rampage around a raider base, every one fell with a single headshot from my laser rifle (didn't even need a more powerful wepon). All that was left of each of them was a small pile of ash with some ammo in it!

just completed this game, loaded the autosave a few times before you do the last part of the quest. All the endings suck -.-;

Latest questions...

Can the National Archives building be accessed above ground, or does it require using the metro tunnels? It is the only place I'm having trouble getting to.

To get to the guy in the bow at Rivet City, do you just have to wait until you have lockpick skill up to 100, or is there another way of getting into his gaff?

Ta much for any advice...

Big ship broken in half and half sunk? bound to be a door somewhere there you'd think ;)

There is a door, but only one it seems. And you need lockpick skill at 100 to access it...

I'll go back take another look.

EDIT - Hidden underwater. Just not looking hard enough again!

I'm unsure as to why this game caried a sexual content advisory??

There are a couple of women in bikinis in the Russian guy's house (Davidov or saomething?) but really I expected there to be a bit of an option to interact with women in a sexual capacity. Not because I'm a perv (I am though) but because it would have added yet another dimension to the game, especially considering the game is happy to be more than liberal with the "f" word.

The only such experience I had was when some chick in a bar in Megaton offered me "a room and some company" for 100 caps. Anyone else developed this in other ways?

Anyway it's a fantastic game and I've just completed it being a goodie. Looking at the comments here though I missed out on a whole lot (I didn't even max my levels, I had no idea project purity would mean closing credits) so I'm going back through being an absolute **** to all and sundry :D.

I posted about the entrance under the water a few pages back. Its to the left of the door you have to pick. Lots of under water tunnels so if you get disorientated you could drown and theres murloks inside.
