***** The Crysis 2 Thread *****

Picked this up last week and I have to say, its darn good actually. I was a little skeptical at first cos I'd read many pc reviews that didnt 'slate' it but said it was different from the original. Which, it is but this isnt a bad thing, honestly. I was a big fan of the original.

Each 'area' is smaller than those in Crysis 1 but because of this the action feels a little more frantic. Whereas before you could run in, take out some enemy then leg it 2 miles away and pick them off one by one. Playing on Hard especially means your constantly looking for cover, ducking and diving to avoid fire and scrambling for your energy to recharge before cloaking to sneak off somewhere and reload. Something I do like that is different to the original, rather than the play area being open and sparse like the jungle, your areas in Crysis 2 are more 'layered' so you can run rings around the enemy by going high or go sublevel into the sewers and subways.

The story is good, the setting is nice and if you have the pc to handle it, the CryEngine 3 on high quality looks gorgeous. Dont go thinking its easy either, I always play on Hard setting cos I like a challange in games and I've dies quite a few times before progressing. I havent tried the 4th difficulty setting but I can guess it would be even tougher.

All in all, a very good game and I'd reccomend it. I guess were just have to wait for Farcry 3 to satisfy our hunger for another Crytek jungle/big area fps.

Decent game, played in a few long sessions, there were moments of 'ok now I'm coming up to the part where I SHOULD be meeting person X, but I know something will stop me or they'll have to leg it, and this goose chase will continue for half the city' where the storyline lacks interest or had been done to death.

The overall story was OK though and the decision making on upgrades and tactics to employ as you went was alright.

Totally enjoyed the stereo 3d support too, even if it is gimped down a bit. Having bought it at the £15 mark though I have absolutely no complaints. If I played these kinds of games using their multiplayer aspects too, maybe would be worth the full ticket price.

just to let you know this has been scanning through at 2 quid brand new at tescos ;) see if your tesco has any left :p

my missus just seen one left at my branch and was a national missprice :)

just completed this game. have the people slating the game actually finished it? i didnt think it was to shabby at all.

I finished it. For a multi-platform FPS it wasn't bad, and was quite pretty, though the story was incoherent and the checkpoint saves appalling.

As a sequel to the original Crysis it was terrible, a step backwards in nearly every way.

Woohoo.. gonna quickly try this on the way home then lol.

Now I haven't played crysis 2 yet.

Is is widely stated that graphically it is not up to the standard of original crysis even though crysis 2 was built on cryengine3 which is supposed to be better than cryengine2.

If crysis 2 had been developed orignally with PC in mind, do you think that it would have surpassed crysis1.

Would it have been graphically even superior compared to BF3 utilising frostbite 2.0?

BF3 already looking amazing visually:)

Well they are very different engines.

Every single piece of code in CryEngine 3 was developed by CryTek. They did it so that everything works in perfect harmony. Also everything in there works under DX9, which is why the console versions look as close to the PC release as they do. The engine was developed for every platform at the same time, so of course an engine that was developed exclusively for PC, like CryEngine 2, would look superior. If Crysis 2 itself had the same development priorities (which is fairly evident) then you can only expect the end result it had... Personally I thought it looked fantastic... Haters just hatin'... If a developer were to try and wring out every inch of graphical power in the CryEngine 3 then you'd get this:

Frostbite 2 uses some 3rd party elements for shaders and sound that might be considered less thoroughly streamlined with the rest of the engine, so expect to see a significant drop in those sexy visuals on the console versions. It's great by all means, but I think all in all you'd probably be able to get very similar results from each engine

Thanks:)

CryEngine3 in it's full glory looks a beast!!

I am enjoying it, quite like the stealthy approach mixed with going Rambo with a HMG spraying bullets everywhere :)

I am currently saving up nano for the 10k stealth upgrade, but is that upgrade any good?

lol, I'm so with you Dutch Guy !

I enjoyed it. The game just kept going, and going and going everytime you thought you were near the end. As mentioned, some really bad inter-level sequencing issues (i.e. fall off a building with no explanation as to what happened when you hit the deck), but apart from that pretty good. OK, every level wasn't that amazing, but the overall experience was pretty good.

Aliens were a bit samey (But then so are human's I suppose), and I thought the graphics were pretty good. Not really sure why so many people complain about them. At least it was VERY playable even on my GTS 250 @ 1920*1200 and HIGH.

Would I spend £15-20 on it? Yes.

The stealth upgrade basically enables you to skip the whole level without killing a single being.

The game got repetitive a few levels in, I just CBA anymore and walked past all the enemies with the badly implemented stealth mode through the linear levels, that combined with stupid enemy AI and poor PC GFX makes crysis 2 not a very good gaming experience, crysis 1 was far better in every department but that was a PC exclusive and not a multi-platform casual console port.

Stealthing was overpowered, but they also added the ability to go into sewers as well, so you would jump into a sewer, and you could pass half of the level.

That reminds me of Metal Gear Solid 4 where I played the whole game without killing or being seen :)

Kinda boring but in Crysis 2 some sections I do stealthy and other times I like to take on some enemies.

How annoying is it that the nano pickups disappear :(

I found a nice DSG-1 with an elevated position and sniped 4 Ceph's but when I got to where I shot them they were gone and also the nano pickups
