Alex Salmond saying there is no advantage in having a doctor who speaks your language,
laughable, the blokes a fool.

The idea that EU doctors can't speak English is equally laughable.

There was a problem a couple of decades ago we were in such need for medical professionals, that we weren't as stringent on the english language side of things for non-eu doctors, but that has significantly diminished.

Did you hear the reaction aswell, he/the audience where dying to scream racist.

Turn it off, its not good for blood pressure

The UKIP woman made a perfectly good call that a doctor speaking English is preferable to one who can't and the reaction was unbelievable from some of the audience who like you say were dying to shout racist.
There is nobody in the world who needs to be able to communicate perfectly more than a doctor and it's just common sense that an Australian one must be preferable to one from Estonia.

Channel 4 news reporting that if the current visa system in force was applied to EU migrants 88% of them wouldn't qualify.

that would have to change - for example temporary visas for seasonal workers etc... brexit doesn't have to mean an end for cheap labour for certain roles, it could however mean being able to control who comes into the country for work from within the EU

betting markets seem to indicate that 'IN' is a clear winner at the moment, only real question is by how much... frankly unless there is some bad news re: refugees, terrorism maybe the french do something silly like block the tunnel or something drastic gets revealed about the EU then it isn't likely to change

polls can frequently be naff but betting markets are probably a bit more reliable

The Doctors argument is mute point, we can get enough of them to come from the EU and the rest of the world as it is. Cutting the supply form either would be a big fail.

having been through this with someone giving me an x-ray i have to agree that medical staff need to be able to understand english. having someone gesture how they want you to place your foot and then when asked how you injured it look confused when you tell them is damned worrying. i know i wouldnt get a job being a english speaker if i was that bad.

We wouldn't be cutting the supply from the EU though, we'd just be able to accept more people from other countries outside of the EU because we'd have less total immigration

When it comes to medical issues fine detail can be vital and its easily lost in translation

In fairness those visa rules were designed with the knowledge that we already had free movement from the EU. In other words they are probably harsher than they would be if they applied to all to try and compensate for the lack of rules to EU migrants.

72% of doctors in the UK who are struck off are foreigners from overseas.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...an-medic-secretly-filmed-female-patients.html

Just skimmed through that article and the only EU doctor mentioned in the article (other than the picture) was actually a Brit. Not sure how this article is relevant to EU debate unless you suggesting sacking all British doctors.

Yup the visa systems would be adjusted to allow for wider pool of people to be granted visa
