I talked to the guys in the shop and they've had ONE return of the corsair psu's (it wasn't even faulty), and they've sold more of them than they have anything else in the past couple of months. I'm just trying to make sure people realise that there is actually a known issue with these PSU's and that it could take a lot of their system with it.

ots not just ocuk that sell the corsair psu's mate, there have been posts on different forums of corsair psu's going bang.

all manufacturers suffer from some failures, its what the warranty is there for.

i sometimes wonder if qtec really are as bad as people say, qtec seem to sell a bucket load of psus so there will probably be more posts of failure than others. but then again iv seen reviews where the qtec was tested and it blows up.

should be fine, the 530w ones are the new range and they don't have problems of fans being mounted backwards.

thanks, thats re assuring :) will still be checking this afternoon before i put it in though :p

is there anything else you guy could recommend doing before i connect it all up?

e.g., plug it into the mains before i connect it to all my precious comp bits, and see if it shorts the mains

If you can't tell which way air should be pushed by the shape of the blades then post a picture here.

lol, no need, if the rear 80mm is on the right way round then so is the underslung 120mm

edit: and if they're both on the wrong way round i have two 120mm fans right below the PSU pushing air out :)

edit02: all connected, running cool+quiet, no problems with the type-r 530w (yet), and would recommend it to anyone :D

edit03: nearly 2 hours of bf2142 later and its still as cool and quiet as when i turn it on :D glad i didn't listen to the "oh noes NOT HIPER" crowd :)

you got the extender one? the one where you can plug extra extensions into it? or is it the modular one?

type-r is the modular series, which is what i have, type-m is the non-modular version of the type-r
not to sure if this answers your question, it was a bit vague, as the modular one has extensions as well :p

count me in for an XL T-shirt ;)

580w, over a year old and never missed a beat.
love it cos it's blue and shiny and that IS the most important consideration for a psu :D

I,ve had one for just over a year, did a rebuild last week and noticed that the back fan isn't working, should it work all the time or is this triggerd by temp.

I've had mine since September 2005 apparently...
Around 19months... by my (probably dodgy) maths.

tbh; I just stuck it in and never gave it another thought. Its always marginally over on the voltages it provides; and my rig seems pretty happy with it; its not like I dont give my rig stick either :p

I have heard that they run into problems when really heavily loaded though; I reckon i'll swap it out before putting a DX10 card in my machine; and it'll be relegated to 2nd gaming rig.

that fan should be working all the time and its speed should increase as the psu gets hotter. thats a dud fan so if its still under warranty do a return or change the fan manually.
