The " Hiper-Active " Club

7 hipers here,
1 x 580w type M - 13 months
1 x 480w type R - 15 months (non modular)
4 x 425w - 17 months each
1 x 525w - 14 months

one of the 425w ones was a doa but took back to shop for a replacement.
all machines they are in have surge protection on power sockets.

5 of those psus above, the 425w and 525w ones are being used in an office on a 24/7 basis so powered on all the time.

the 480w type r i recieved had its fan mounted in the wrong direction so sent direct to hiper for replacement.

the 580w type r i had also had the fan mounted backwards, sent back to hiper and they sent me the 580w type M as replacement since type r was not in stock and i did not want to wait.

Had my black 580 for ages (well over a year). And it's running smooooooooth

(Now I've said that it's probably setting fire to my house as I type)

I posted that my 580R was running fine in the first page of this thread. It still is, just not in my NF4 any more. As you can see from my sig, i got a nice present from a gratefull client :D so what could i do with it. Well what would you do? :D

I've had this PSU for over a year, but still got a very basic question about it:

Would you consider this PSU to be quiet? It is the only power supply I've ever used that isn't from a pre-built system so I have nothing to compare it to. My computer has always been fairly loud despite changing the GPU/CPU heatsink/fans and disconnecting case fans to see if I could find the source. This leaves me guessing it must be the PSU making all the noise but I've read in reviews that this one is a particularly quiet one. Also, it seems that the two fans in mine are both "always on" and I've read that the internal one only turns on when it needs to (case temps are less than 40C), is that a fault with mine?

Cheers,
Mark

Some are quiet and some ar'nt. Both of mine are blue 580R's, one defo makes more noise than the other. No real reason for it, it just seems to be that way.

All mine that I installed were nice and quiet, check that the fans are the correct way around. I hear that some are installed wrong, this would cuase a heat problem.

Wondering should I sell it or keep it?

Such horrible decisions.... Don't think the bank balance is up to the upgrade though.

Dispite all the bad hype - pardon the pun! There a nice power supply so long as the PSU inside is cool (I obvoiusly had a bad batch!) I would live with it. I dont think they will RMA just becuase the fan is alittle louder, TBH sell it on - on some auction sites they will almost pay the full price for them.

Mine never blew up, but it was retired after 2 years because the 120mm fan began to grind on the rear 90mm and removing the rear fan sent the temps through the roof.

What is your point? The guy just said he was fine with it.

Things can be fine for a very long time, it'd be much better to get a PSU that's not known to go bang though. People can do this with little/no expense by selling their working ones on Ebay now, don't wait until it's blown up and try to sell it for spares/repairs.

just bought the hiper type r 530w today, will be arriving on Tuesday, hope i end up being part of this club in the not so near future

should be fine, the 530w ones are the new range and they don't have problems of fans being mounted backwards.

iv had lots of psu;s blow up on me from lots of manufacturers, iv had 2 antecs die, silverstone psu's go up in flames, seasonics go bang, and plenty qtecs die out on me (but have also seen some systems running for years on qtec psus with no problems.)
so its impossible to say is one brand is gonna last longer than another, there is always dodgey batches etc.

but from what i have seen so far to get the most assured reliability you need to buy something that costs a packet, like an enermax galaxy or pcp&c system.

if i decided on not buying a psu from a manufacturer that has had one fail before then looks like i would never have a psu in my system at all.

I talked to the guys in the shop and they've had ONE return of the corsair psu's (it wasn't even faulty), and they've sold more of them than they have anything else in the past couple of months. I'm just trying to make sure people realise that there is actually a known issue with these PSU's and that it could take a lot of their system with it.
