Can I join?

I've had mine for 18 months and although it past away peacefully yesterday i am going to put the replacement Hiper back in its place :)

Although it died it was a quiet death with no explosions! does that count?

Some are quiet and some ar'nt. Both of mine are blue 580R's, one defo makes more noise than the other. No real reason for it, it just seems to be that way.

been looking in to the niose issues, the ones which apparently are making more noise are the modular ones which have high resistance over thier modular connection points, which also seem to be the ones which are failing the most.

also could people post which psu;s they have had that failed, reading everything in this thread and the hiper explosive thread it seems that every hiper psu thats failed so far is a 580w type R modular one.

Got my 580W modular in March last year, still going strong. Rear fan is damn noisy under load though. Would replacing it with something slightly quieter void my warranty?

Hmm, been reading about wrong way round fans - my rear one is pushing air out the back and the 120mm underneath is pushing air into the PSU - is this right?

yes that is the right way for the fans to spin. is that the modular psu? cuz my 580w has only a single 12cm fan.

Yep, 580W Type-R Modular, one 80mm fan at the back (what seems to be the cause of the noise) and one 120mm fan underneath.

add me plz >>

Had my Hiper Type R 580 since Jan 24 2006 an since thats well over a year old an going strong :)

It is a shame they get a bit of a bad reputation, I couldnt be happier with mine, its nice and quiet and does the job fine.

yea they would be good value for money if there wern't such failure reports on the 580w ones. iv also got a 480w type-r non modular in my media center pc and thats been solid for over a year now and the only time that pc has been turned off is when there was a powercut.

I have one of these :

They are apparently Hiper in disguise ? Its the 450w version, silent and no problems
