***The iOS 5 Thread***

Right, after a few days use- I can safely say, Siri is completely crap.

A good 50% of the time it misunderstands completely, it gives erratic responses (I.e. it reads back what I have said correctly, but then does the wrong action), without Yelp or maps it's hugely limited, you can't change the voice so we're stuck with this ridiculous English chap and dictation nigh on never gets an entire message correct, so you have to keep starting over).

:(

I'm having trouble with the GPS reminders.

I tell Siri to "remind me to burn a cd when I get home" and it sets the reminder. However nothing happens when I get home

I've set my full address with postcode in the contacts, so im lost for words.

Same issue for me. I live in a block of flats and Current Location when in the flat is actually named that of the block beside. Seems to be a limit on GPS on how accurate it can be. :(

I've tried the reverse "remind me when I leave" and despite driving 60 miles from home it still had the reminder

I really would like to use the feature but it's just not working. Location services enabled.

I said to Siri yesterday "Remind me to do the backup tapes when I get to work tomorrow". As I drove into the car park, the reminder popped up.

Sadly it's not quite as clever as I'd hoped - I've tried to say "Remind me to do the backup tapes every day when I'm at work but not before 3PM. It doesn't do an AND on those two, it does an OR so I get the reminder when I drive through the gate.

This is probably blindly obvious to everyone - but now you can access all your previously purchased music using icloud. No more asking itunes for a favour!

I have loads of stuff on there i'd forgotten about or lost.

Did you have to actively set a work address in your contact entry, or did you wait until Siri asked about adding the entry.

I'm thinking there may be a bug when you add the location through Siri.

Dont know if its a bug just for my phone or everyone but with gps reminders the location service doesnt switch off.
I did a test reminder, just to notify me when i got home. It did so and i thought nothing else of it.
But a bit later i looked at my phone and it still had the location gps arrow displayed.
Killing the app did nothing and i found that i had to delete the reminder for it to stop using gps. at this point my batt had run down a lot lol.

Maybe some1 could see if this is just me ?

I already had a work address set in my own contact, I didn't need to do anything.

This is my thinking.. I've reactively added my address through Siri after I tried a request, and haven't got it working.

If you check the reminder it's created, does it actually have the location detail against it?

I had the same problem - Siri would accept the request and say it had created the reminder but the reminder was created without any 'trigger', either time or location.

It turned out this was because my reminder were synchronising with my Exchange account. I disabled this and instead enabled reminders to sync with iCloud. I then tried creating a location based reminder again using Siri and this time it asked if I wanted to enable Location Services for reminders. Hey presto the reminders are now created properly.

One thing I have noticed is that, as soon as a location based reminder is set, the location services arrow appears constantly in the bar at the top.

Obviously it needs to monitor my location constantly so it knows when to trigger the reminder but does this mean it's using the GPS all the time as that's going to run the battery down rather quickly?

Look 4 posts above lol

What i was saying in my post was that even after the reminder has..reminded the location gps is still active.

Ah soz missed that - at least you know it's not just you! :)

If it is keeping the GPS active all the time then that's a very poor design. Far more sensible would be to rely on the network for position information, possibly checking GPS briefly now and then to confirm the location.

my messages arent sycimg between my iPad and iPhone either. Is there any thing you need to do ?

It appears that you need to tell your phone to use your email as Caller ID, and make sure your other devices have the same one...

Settings>Messages>Receive At>Caller ID - select your email address.

Hmmm, still doesnt seem to be working 100% for me. If I send a iMessage on my i4 it doesnt seem to show on my iPad 2 unless ive already had a convo with said person.

I think the key thing to do also is delete the message thread with said person and start the conversation again, which should make it sync across the devices.
