*** The iPhone 3G S Thread - All iPhone 3G S Related Stuff In Here ***

The apps are tied to your Apple account in iTunes, they should just synchronise to your new phone. If you've downloaded apps straight to your existing phone, make sure you perform a sync with the computer first, so that these will be copied across ready for the new phone.

So I just sync? Or do you restore?

Im a bit of an apple noob. It would be awesome if you just sync and its back to what my iphone 3g was.

Just seen on Macrumors that the 3Gs comes with a coating on the screen to resist finger-print smears.

That's pretty cool - still can't justify the expense though.

Considering there's already a placeholder for the Buy button, yes ;)

Expect it to ship on the 19th, for delivery on the 20th though.

Ah nice one :)

Heh yeah just seen this also! Sounds - from other iPhone users - this was needed :p

Personally I think people who are actually at the end of their present contract should get priority. I've been on Simplicity for the last month and I bet any money I won't be able to get one because everyone and their dog wants to upgrade for the sake of it even though they've got 6-8 months left on their current contract. I reckon though those opting for the 32GB one will have more luck.

Right, I *think* I've decided on getting the 32GB 3G on PAYGO and swapping the SIM from 16GB 3G. Celebrate the end of A-Levels by making myself poor!

Is Apple/O2/CPW doing reservations for pickup or online ordering of the PAYGO handsets?

Also, for those of us flogging on our 3G's.... Given Envirofone are offering £200, what's realistic to expect on eGay (or wherever) and is there a way of selling without getting scammed or shafted by PayPal? I'd heard £300 maybe £350?

Yes, iTunes syncs your phone each time you plug it in.

When you plug the 3G in it will ask if you want to restore from a backup.

If you choose "yes" you will be up and running as if nothing happened. It's pretty nice.

I work in the glass industry, and I'm pretty sure there's no magic coating to prevent smears. There's self cleaning coatings, ultra clear variants, low-iron (good for conservatory glass) but never heard of smear-free :o

Could be the MacRumors faithfull eating the placebo effects of new shiny gadgets.

Awesome, thanks :)

Good for O2. What a bunch of absolute and utter cretins.

They signed a contract, they should honour it. O2 are offering them a favour by letting them upgrade early so I see no reason why O2 should offer subsidised upgrades. The whole point of an 18 month contract is that it also covers the cost of the handset, why the hell should O2 be expected to just let customers sign a new 18 month contract and terminate the old one? They wouldn't recoup the costs for giving the customer the original iPhone. It would be minimizing profits and probably incurring a loss.

Pay extra to upgrade or wait until your contract is over. Perfectly fair.

indeed been like that since the beginning of time with mobiles.

Furthermore we all know Apple usually update their products on a year to year basis.

I'm taking out an 18 month contract for one of these iPhones knowing fully well another, better version will probably come out 12 months into it. I won't cry a river, I'll just wait the 6 months and then upgrade.

More to the point why do these muppets desperately want the new one, it's hardly an improvement on the current model? Certainly not worth paying off your existing contract for the sake of being the first to own one. Some people are sad.

Unfortunately you seem to be in the minority in terms of having your head screwed on properly. There's currently a 47+ page thread on the O2 forums from people who figure they're entitled to break contracts early just because "it's not a phone, it's an iPhone!"

Yep, you need to ring up though:
