Is it worth upgrading from a 8GB 3G to the 3Gs?

My employer currently pays my phone bill (direct debited from my account, paid back as expenses) so if I order a new contract (£35 p/month) and see if they have any refurbed 3Gs's (returned within 14 days and cleaned up by Apple) I would technically only be paying £35 a month for a phone... I could then give that sim and my 3G to my GF and take the new phone and add in my sim.

Does this make sense / seem like a good idea? If its worth upgrading that is.

It may be useful since it's twice as fast, and if I get the 16GB, twice the memory.

Bad idea.

If you lose your job you'll be contractually tied to paying 2x O2 contracts.

Also, each month you're still paying £70 so depending on how good / bad your employer is with the expense system, you could end up pretty fed up knowing there will be 2 bills coming out via direct debit.

Get them to pay your phone bill directly, and I would say it's not a bad option.

I really want to set up my 3G as a new phone again, but iam having trouble figuring out the easiest way to backup all my contacts/mail account/calender/texts etc. Any help would be great runiing windows 7.

Plug it in to iTunes and let it sync.

This will perform a complete backup of the phone including settings.

Now (with the iPhone attached) hold the power button + home button (on the iPhone) until you see a message that "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode".. this will take a good 45 seconds.. keep holding these two buttons until you see the dialog appear.

When it appears, let go of both buttons. Follow the prompts, click "Restore" and your phone will be restored to factory settings. If you do no want iTunes to activate the handset, eject the SIM before clicking restore.

In the event that you wish to continue using the phone, just choose "Set up iPhone as new iPhone" or "Restore from backup". The choice is yours :)

Also, just thought I'd add, it's possible to set the phone up so that even a reset without restoring the old backup doesn't lose you very much data at all. I've got my contacts and calendar synced to Google via google apps (MS Exchange) which uses push, so it's always up to date. My mail uses IMAP so no need to back up anything there. The only thing I lost when I upgraded to the 3Gs were my text messages, and 5 minutes to re-add the mail and push accounts. Applications re-synced from itunes, as did music.

Thanks, but I dont want to restore my iPhone from a backup once ive re-installed 3.0 as if I do my backup will contain parts of my jailbreak still.

Here's some more info on Google sync for iphone - an excellent feature that not much seems to have been said about. I use it through Google Apps with my domain though I guess it should work with any google account.

http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=apple

Make sure you follow the initial steps carefully, where your contacts are pushed to Google. When the first sync occurs, your contacts are wiped on the phone then re-downloaded from Google. Might be worth syncing contacts with something like Outlook, or Windows Contacts first so you have an extra backup. Incidentally, if you don't want to do the Google Sync thing, you could make do with this cabled sync instead for contacts and calendar. Wipe the phone and then just set it up again to sync with Outlook/Windows contacts.

With e-mail, again, Google Mail has IMAP, so all e-mails stay on their servers. Once you've wiped the phone, just re-add the IMAP account and it will re-download your e-mails. This is the same principle with any provider that has IMAP. Hope that helps.

ordered and received my Iphone 3G S from mobiles.co.uk last week all was well until my case arrived , i then removed the packaging cellophane from screen to reveal 2 marks like air bubbles under the screen .

i phoned mobiles.co.uk to enquirer about exchanging the the phone, after 20 min on hold i got through to a women who said she would give me the exchange details and did i have a pen and paper handy , i asked her could she please emails the details to me , she said yes and hung up but no details were emailed .

after 24 min on hold i got through again , the guy this time emailed me the details put me on hold and i got cut off, on reading the email its seems i have to post the phone back within 3 days or the rma number runs out , this is not possible for me to do due to work commitments so I'm phoning again to see see if a courier collection can be arranged , been on hold now for 52 (eventually hung up) minutes cant say I'm happy with MOBILES .CO.UK.
