*** The iPhone 3G S Thread - All iPhone 3G S Related Stuff In Here ***

Just bought an iPhone 3gs, however it is loosing signal and 3g connectivity every couple of minutes, will this stop or will I have to Get a replacement?

Are you on contract or PAYG with Voda? From what I can see their PAYG SIM-only packages don't include mobile data like the O2 Simplicity ones do.
Contract. I'd agree that the Vodafone PAYG offerings aren't quite as compelling as O2.

Easy enough to get up and running?
Yep. Followed commonly available info online, and it was pretty straightforward. Think the rules on here are that we aren't allowed to discuss exactly how to go about such things, so I'll just leave it at that.

is anyone getting a problem where the iphone will think its plugged in to something when its not, like i get the "this accessory is not made to work with the iphone" pop up randomly?

its not just because its annoying because of the pop-up window asking about airplane mode, but because it goes into silent mode too and i dont get any of the sounds... text messages/ipod/youtube etc.

I have read through a lot of this thread and just want to confirm my understanding of the process required to move from 3 to an Iphone on o2 Simplicity.

I am particularly unsure about the activation bit of the process.

Get 3 PAC code - Done

Buy PayG Iphone 3G - Doing this afternoon

Sign Up to 02 Simplicity at 02 Shop (20 notes inc web bolt on) - Doing this afternoon

Install Itunes and activate phone ??

Pop in Simplicity Sim -Call up 02 and give PAC code ??

Change settings as per this thread to enable 3g / mms

Hey presto?!

As mentioned above, the bit I am particularly usure of is the order of putting in sim/activating/using PAC.

A quick response would be appreciated as I am itching to head off to the Apple store to get the phone.

The easiest way to activate the iphone is to top-up ten quid on the PAYG sim, then take it out and keep it in a draw for safe keeping (this might be compulsory to do at apple/ o2 store).

Stick your simplicity sim in and configure it to work with the iphone.

Call up O2 and give your PAC number and ask them to transfer it across.

Im pretty sure thats all you need to do, someone please correct me if i am wrong its been a while since i used my PAC from vodafone to o2.

Thanks for your reply. I don't mind doing it if necessary, but do I really need the PAYG sim at all. Can I not just activate with the Simplicity SIM and call up with PAC code.

Also, on the apple website it tells me to bring my PAC code if I want to transfer my number to the iphone. This is presumably only if you mean to use PAYG going forward?

Again thanks for your help and sorry to question you, but as you seem uncertain yourself..

With my 2G I occasionally get this when I plug it into the dock but never when its not attached to something.

Do the same but do it all online and enjoy cashback - Iphone from apple will net you 4% cashback and o2 simplicity 12 month deal will net you £100 cashback

I didnt have a choice with the PAYG sim when i went to the Apple store - they activated it there even tho i told them i could do it myself - depending on where you go you might be able to get away with it, but i HAD to do it.

As has been said it is probably best to get the sim online as you will be able to give the PAC there and then and get cashbackIf you are unsure you can call o2 and see what they say.

Thanks again

I have just ordered phone online from the apple store and a 12 simplicity sim from 02 online. What I plan to do is just go straight for the simplicity sim. I have been doing some more reading and I think that should work (please correct me if wrong). If it doesn't I will use the PAYG sim first and then pop the simplicity card in afterwards. Either way, I will not get the PAC involved until I am safely on the simplicity card.

I did both through quidco so am hopeful for a bit of cashback. 3% for the phone and (possibly!?) 100 for the 12 month simplicity contract. If this works as planned, I will be over the moon.

Thanks again and if anyone has been through this before and has some feedback, please fire away.

Many thanks.

Thanks. I just spotted this after my post above. I am glad to hear about the cashback. :)

Can you just confirm, if you know, whether I need to activate the phone using the PAYG Iphone sim or not. If I do activate with PAYG, can I simply pop the Simplicity SIM in afterwards. ALso If I do go PAYG first, do you know if I can retain the unlimited wifi when on simplicity.

Cheers

So what package have you got with Voda (calls/texts/data)?

Also, presuming you bought a PAYG iPhone, how are you getting the Voda SIM to work in it. Don't answer this if it involves discussing things which are banned on here, just wondered if there was a "legitimate" way of doing it :)
