I went into the o2 shop yesterday wanting a 3G S but I couldnt get one with the o2 Open discount. (30% off any tariff) So I've got an 8GB 3G instead. It is a fantastic phone though and much better than my Blackberry Curve

With PAYG on o2, you get 12 free months of data (email and Internet).
Using the simplicity tariff?
I use 02 Unlimited on mine so I can't comment on simplicity. I thought you got 12 months free data regardless of tariff choice though, when paying the outlay that you do for the PAYG price of the handset.

Might be mis-understanding what you're asking, but on the Simplicity tariffs you have to go for at least the £20p/m one to add the unlimited data bolt-on for free. This doesn't give you free access to the cloud Wiffy hotspots, but it's a pretty good tariff in itself (600m 1200t).

Guys who is on the £45 a month contract with o2?
I've just noticed that doesn't include VAT, so I'm paying over £50 now
I wanted to add a unlimited text bolt on but this will taking my contract near £60, feel a bit sick paying all that

Nah not business contract, really **** though. I think all phone contacts I've had have included VAT in their monthly tariff prices. I know its only like £7 but its the principle really.
It does include VAT. It's £44.04 including VAT.(as it was £45 at the old rate). If you've been charged £50, it's because you started your contract and were billed for a few days + next month in advance. (e.g. my first bill was £46).Guys who is on the £45 a month contract with o2?

Hmm, maybe I'm reading into my bill incorrectly. I saw £45 for my tariff then an extra £7 for VAT but I did get the phone last month so it maybe right what you are saying
is anyone having problems using internet? when i try to do anything that requires a connection i get the message "could not activate cellular data network". ive not changed any settings at all its just happened today after a week of no problems.
i get a 3g in the top left corner. tried restarting but still no luck.
should i hit 'reset settings' in cellular data settings?

Me too having this problem and also cant send MMS either
If your on contract then:
Go in to the settings menu on my iPhone and select General > Network > Cellular Data Network.
Change the Cellular Data APN to mobile.o2.co.uk. Leave username and password as is.
Change the MMS APN to wap.o2.co.uk. You don't need to change any of the other MMS settings.
Reboot the device for settings to take effect.
Or if you are on PAYG:
Go in to the settings menu on my iPhone and select General > Network > Cellular Data Network. Change the Cellular Data APN to payandgo.o2.co.uk. Leave username and password as is. Change the MMS APN to payandgo.o2.co.uk. Reboot the device for settings to take effect.
Think the above setting for contract is for non iphone tariff contract

Strange one, I have no alerts, missed calls, mms, sms , email nothing?
but it's done this a few times lately an it starting to get on my wick!
Might be missing something obvious but can't figuer it out?

I did this and just sold the 3G and bought a 3GS. Ended up putting £160 towards it, which isnt much more than the £87 i would if i got it on an o2 contract
