*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

I've phoned o2 twice today to see if the Pay&Go phone will work with a Simplicity sim in it. CS said it will but the store in Dundee i phoned say it wont.

I really dont want to have to change to a Pay&Go tariff, Google gives conflicting answers as well.

Has anyone here tried a Pay&Go iPhone 3G with a simplicity sim?

Useless Git, I haven't yet but I do use that tariff.

The 02 site says you can change to any tariff after buying the phone so I would assume that is the case. There were no stars or small numbers beside that when I read it either.

02 said:
Your new SIM will be set up to the Favourite Place tariff. If you decide you like the look of one of the other tariffs, you can easily change tariff once a month.

It says 'Click for more details' and takes you to a splash page of available tariffs, unlimited 02 is one of the available ones.

I'm not worshipping it, you tarts. It's called potential resale value. ;)
If only I knew where you lived so I could hunt you down and fingerprint your virgin iPhone3G - oh yeah I do ;)

P.S. Got COD fine, not tried it yet but will leave trust ;)

ps3ud0

I saw that page this morning, no mention of simplicity though. I think you can only change to another Pay&Go tariff and i dont like the look of any of them.

I'm on Simplicity 25 just now, that gets me 600 anytime, any network and landline minutes, 1000 texts (i think) and unlimited web as my free bolt on. This is perfect for me and none of the Pay&Go tariffs can match that for £20 per month.

I'm dying to go into town to buy one but i dont want to until i know for sure that my current sim will work.

Just seen this about activating the iPhone 3G.

"Change your data settings. Your iPhone is automatically set to Pay Monthly, so you'll need to change the settings to Pay & Go to get the things like mobile internet to work.
Here's how:

Go to settings menu, choose General

Choose Network, then Cellular Data Network

In the APN box, change mobile.o2.co.uk to payandgo.o2.co.uk - you don't need to change the user name and password

When finished, press the home button and you're done."

The bit in italics suggests it might work, Simplicity is a pay monthly 30 day contract.

This is just confusing me now :D

I probably didn't help storming in saying you could do it when I was on about a completely different sim. :D

I emailed o2 about this complication a while ago and they either didn't reply or their mail server wasn't working but it doesn't seem to be very well thought out.

Got my iPhone this morning, loving it so far, I need some apps to mess about on though! Any suggestions (free preferably!)?

Got one as well. Being sans phone and iPod for two weeks wasn't fun!

Plus:
Yay, data plan.
Better media speaker.

Minus:
Man, the build quality feels noticably worse to me. The original was like a slice of granite.
Screen has a bit of a green cast.

See here for a nice list of apps.

I love how you all bum the phone that ive had for like 3 weeks now :D

Still awsome :D

Still quite buggy though, not done my update yet.

guys, havent time to read through the whole thread! is anyone using this on the 3 network, is the 3g reception good enough to do so

Well i took the chance that my Simplicity sim would work, just back from town with a 16gb black iPhone 3g and i can report that it does :D

It activated in iTunes no problem, made a test call and sent a test text and all is ok. i can get the web at a decent speed as well now :D just have to sell the original iPhone the sim came out of now.

I'm well chuffed :D :D

Surely that means you're missing out on the year's free internet? £400 for the phone without that makes it pretty expensive....

From my earlier post.

I just upgraded to firmware 2.1 and it's all still working :D

I am really starting to lose patience now with this latest version of iTunes. I have uninstalled all traces of Apple from my computer, made sure with an advanced uninstaller program so all traces have been removed from registry and file folders have been deleted. I then get the latest version from the Apple site only to find the installer crash near then end with this error message.

Anyone have any ideas?

If it's something to do with traces being left around and it's not a known problem that others are having, have you tried creating a clean new Windows user account and installing it in there? Long shot.

£30 for the nonsensicaly white dock (that's no longer included) was a laugh. This is more like it, and "only" a tenner, too.
