Nothings back yet, all speculation.
If home activation is back I wouldn't be surprised to see the iPhone go completely untied to any carrier.
I would struggle to see 02 allowing people to do what they did with the 1st gen. Anyone know when that contract is up?

I dont get what the fuss is though, you still have to sign a contract to get the thing at £169 anyway, its not like its even unlocked yet. How would that change if the first plug in was done at home or in the shop? All it would mean is the lines are speeded up as its one less thing to do in the shop....

Next break clause is end of 2009. Unless O2 have screwed up badly there is now way they are going to let Apple out of it; also Apple have nothing to gain from allowing open access since they have a 50% revenue (not profit) sharing agreement with O2 and diddly squat with everyone else. Apple can't even fulfil current demand so what's the point in opening up more.

When you find a Cloud or BTOpenZone wireless network, go to any page in Safari. It should divert to the registration/login page. Just enter your mobile number and voila!
Of course the first time I found one, I couldn't remember my mobile number (new contract) so had to get my girlfriend to text it to me.... DOH!

Doesn't the iPhone tell you your own number at the top of the contacts section? Although mine currently displays the wrong one since the iPhone/iTunes don't appear to notice when a new number is transferred on to the SIM!

Picked my 8gb model today.. great little thing. One question though.. what does the lil 'o' mean to the right of O2-UK? I'm guessing something to do with the data connectivity? Had an E on it before.. not anymore.. no 3G at all :/

On my white 16gb the 3g was disabled by default
Settings > General > Network > Enable 3G

So if you left your phone, locked, with wifi/3g/edge all the normal stuff on, how long does the battery last? Just curious as mine cant last 24hours with very light use which I find quite bad!
You can't lock it with Wifi on, it turns off after 5 sec and reconnects when you unlock. 3G/Edge is always on, like any phone.
In that case, if you just left it, more than 24h. However, if you use it at all, a lot less. People forget the screen is the biggest drain on the phone.

Well 2 or 3 times the phone has gone from 100% charge to 0% in 8hours whilst ive been asleep. Most of the time it goes down 30-40% during a nights sleep, jsut thought it would be more because that works out about 24hours locked screen when Im sure Apple state it is a lot more ?
