EDIT:

Started it again, 4th time now but this time i turned the phone off and on first which has seemed to help my apps that refuse to download untill finally plugged into iTunes..

The iPhone is slowly starting to **** me off! All i want it for the update to be done so i can carry on as normal with a fully working phone but it seems to be taking for ever!

Right, I've had my iPhone 3G for a month or so now and so I've just jailbroken it using the guide here and it's just restoring all my music now. I'm not really sure why I jailbroke it except for the obvious reason of "because I can" and I don't know what I'm going to do with it now that I've done it!

I guess all I'll really do is tweak the interface a bit but are there any essentials I should be looking at?

Also, what happens when there's new firmware? Do I have to do it all over again?

After having a play with my mates new iPhone last week and then visiting the new apple store in Leicester I've decided to get one. I've requested my PAC code from vodafone so as soon as that's through.....

Can someone help me out here please, I am hoping to get the iphone as a gift for a relative on PAYG. Even though its PAYG there are 3 plans if I remember £10, £15... etc.

Do i have to register anything when im buying it as I need to know if I have to put it in her name or what? Im slightly confused by the whole thing, or is it just a simple purchase where the different plans can be activated by her? Also will it be possible for her to carry her old O2 number forward and how is this done?

Thanks guys

When you buy an iPhone 3G on PAYG, the "Favourite Place" tariff is bundled with it and the more you top up each month, the more free minutes you receive.

You can choose any PAYG tariff offered by O2 however I'm not sure whether the tariff can be changed when you are buying the iPhone 3G. When I bought mine, the staff in the O2 shop said you can change it after you top up. Unfortunately, it takes 30 days since your last top up for the tariff to be changed :(

No, you don't have to register for anything and you only have to sign the receipt if you're paying by card.

All you have to do is just buy the phone and the top up card package (includes SIM card too). Unfortunately, the top up card is not included in the phone's price so it's an extra £10.

You can call O2 to transfer her old number which will take a few days.

I'm having trouble with my pop3 email on my iphone.
When I first got it, I set up three seperate email addresses perfectly, all would send and receive fine. However they started to play up so I deleted them all, problem I have now is that whenever I try to set up my Virgin (ntlworld) pop3 and smtp servers it won't work at all, it simply says that it can't connect and would I like to try without SSL. When I say "yes" it just hangs.

Any ideas on why this isn't working now?

hi,

i'm thinking about buying an iphone. Can anyone tell me, can you get email with pay as you go??.

I was looking on the 02 website and it said that you get unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi for the first 12 months with PAYG. Does that include email?.

I'd rather not take out any contracts.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Yes. I think its any data usage is free for the first 12 months.

Hopefully buying one tomorrow, failing that monday morning. Ran my n95 contract out and was planning on going PAYG on the handset. Unfortunately, reading loads of pages within the thread has changed my mind. Sounds like a real treatish gadget, cannot wait to get my hands on it.

think its either,

2020 or 2202 something like that.

Mine pops up when I send a text.

Also, I take it you have gone for PAYG, make sure you give o2 a call and select the tarrif you want to be on, to make the most out of your PAYG sim :D

My contracts up in November and i'm really thinking of getting an iphone on £35pm contract and £159 for 16GB iphone but i have a couple of questions.

I am concerned about the length of the contract (18 months) as i've only ever had 12 month contracts, would it be cheaper to go payg or just buy the next iphone that's released and sell the current one? I have a feeling there will be at least a couple of revisions within 18 months.

I'm also not quite clear on 3G usage. If i browse daily for about an hour will i go over any fair usage policy that 02 as? I've never used internet on a phone before, I have used WiFi and i know about that but there's not any WiFi hot spots where i'll be using it. so i'll be surfing using 3G.

Can anybody explain to me in n00b terms the cost of using the iphone for internet surfing?

Thanks :)
