*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

Shouldn't be a problem. I was on a really poor contract until a week ago so I called o2 just to checked when I could renew my contract as I knew it was due any day. I explained that I wanted to hold off for the 3G iPhone and they suggested I move to the simplicity contract. I was told I'd be able to upgrade to the iPhone as soon as it's out so I'm sure you'll be fine.

thanks, just what i was looking for. bring on 11th july :D

It'll still be subject to fair use, all data packages on everything (phones, wifi, adsl, cable) are subject to some sort of fair use. Usually only invoked when the usage is truely unfair though. If you manage to make it connect to your laptop and start shifting 200Gb per month, they're going to take some action.
Oh yeah, can't deny that.. as you say, every service has a FUP.

I was just saying that 02 CEO Matthew Key announced that they'd dropped the planned cap, and that it would be truly unlimited (on paper).

Which was great for the V1 buyers :) (Official of course)

Just noticed this too..

£99 for the existing £35 p/month customers.. online only!

If your already on an O2 contract but you not near your upgrade time, what the best plan of action in getting an iPhone? Buying the PAYG phone, and then tweaking the contract to include internet?
Im going into the store tomorrow to ask too :)

Anyone have any idea what sort of discount ill get for being with O2 for 8 years? Just after a bit of an estimate.

Cheers.

£0.

You may have to kick up a fuss on the phone and mention cancelling (which may not work as the iPhone is 02-exclusive so they know you can't if you want it :p) to get any kind of deal.

Sorry, sure I've read somewhere that P&G customers will get a discount either from the iPhone itself or the monthly cost??

Might just be me...

So with just 1 week to go before it's release anyone have any idea's when existing iPhone users can put in an order for an upgrade?

Obviously wanting delivery on launch day.

What is the 8GB PAYG phone price?
Taken out O2 Simplicity today as I think the iPhone contract is utter rubbish for the money so tempted to sell my Blackberry 8100 and iPhone v1 if the price difference is ridiculous!

Well the unconfirmed price for the 8GB on PAYG is £299. If you compare the £35/month iPhone contract to the nearest equivalent simplicity deal then you don't actually save anything plus you loose the free wifi and visual voicemail.

8GB iPhone on the £35 contract:

£35 * 18 + £99 (Phone) = £729

8GB iPhone on O2 Simplicity Online 25 with Unlimited Data Bolt-On:

£25 * 18 + £299 (Phone) = £749

The £30 iPhone contract is utter rubbish but the £35 one is quite a good deal compared to other countries who have the 3G iPhone, including the US. Even compared to other UK networks it's not a bad deal.

Only 500 text on the iPhone contract, Id probably be going over that :(

Only thing thats really pushing me towards Simplicity compared to iPhone contract or T-mobile using iPhone v1 , is no contract its just pay every month so if a new great deal comes out in a few months I can just swap to that!

Just requested my PAC code from Orange. Painless, no trying to sell me stuff. She sounded like a hot Geordie too :D

Hopefully I can get my hands on one soon enough :)

you will find that the iphone isnt particular amazing at texting and you will text a bit less then a normal phone.

i.e with normal phone many people can text one handed without looking at the keys, this aint easy on an iphone ;)

this is what i have found anyway

You also get free access to 'The Cloud' and 'BTOpenzone' wifi hotspots which you would otherwise have to pay for (I know BTOpenzone is about £6 a hour so it's a good freebee). They are quite common across the country, a lot of pubs have an 'ItBox' game machine which broadcasts 'The Cloud' and 'BTOpenzone' hotspots are quite common around coffee shops and airports. Wifi will probably still be faster than 3G so it is a nice extra to have.
Oooh that sounds handy - is there a map or something that shows where we can get free WIFI hotspot access with the iPhone - might be the dealmaker...

Alsways assumed outside London would be hit and miss fr useful access...

Darn ;) Though Id probably only do about a 1Gb a day max if I could - just want it as a BB dongle like my WM6 phone...

Called Vodafone yesterday for my PAC code. It's coming in the post, which doesn't bother me in the slightest. I could have pushed for it over the phone, but so long as it comes before Friday, I'm not all that bothered.

Did get a call this morning however offering me a nice deal on the new Samsung, but just said I was after the iPhone, and the guy didn't push at all. I can't blame them for trying to keep customers.

Already have v1 iPhone and sent around 1600 text in 2months so it doesnt put me off atall :) Its not harder its just irritating sometimes to text. I always hit the return key instead of space which winds me up SO much

Considering how many you do - wouldnt it be worth adding the Text Bolt On for £7.50?

Work out to be less than 1p a message outside of your inclusive messages...

EDIT: Oops read one month not two - so you are only doing 300 more per month - works out to be 2.5p then...

What's O2's 3g coverage like now? Last time I knew anyone with a 3g phone on o2 is was pretty useless. On my T-Mob and Voda phones it was quite rare I lost 3g.

If their 3g is good then there's not a huge amount of value in the "free" wifi.. if it's rubbish then there's not a huge amount of value in me getting it on o2 :)
