*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

Gotta love the way it says we're outta stock... only on O2.

Yup, only O2 could have gone out of stock so quickly

I am sure O2 said to Apple 'listen, don't send us many, we don't mind if we go out of stock, it wont sell anyway'

Yeap. At least we can upgrade though. My current contract is an 18 month, starting from Jan 08. They wouldn't let me upgrade for the first iPhone.

This friday (11th July) or the one after? (19th July)?

This friday 11th.. 19th? 18th perhaps!? ;) or are we on an 8 day week!?

They've only sold out of online stock - the stores will still be getting them in...

EDIT// I hope?

Just read on the Mac Rumor's iPhone forum that existing iPhone customers can upgrade in the store on Friday.
Apparently O2 issued a memo to sotres this afternoon following the problems this morning.

Anybody else heard this?

I'd heard something similar - but unless its backed up with some hard evidence, I'll take it with a pinch of salt!

Hope its true though...

Hopefully it's true, makes sense after the online shambles of today but I will wait to see if o2 text or update the website to reflect this.

Well I've just spoke to one of the two local o2 stores to me, I said I had massive problems trying to upgrade my iPhone this morning online and asked can I upgrade instore on Friday. The Answer was a resounding YES!
Friday it is then. :D

w00t! :D

I'd better set my alarm, here's hoping my store get plenty of whities :)

And I just phoned my local O2 store who said that no, they wouldn't be allowing people to upgrade in store.

im a current o2 customer but not an iphone customer, ive jsut rung arround a few of the o2 stores in the Bristol area and they have told me the same thing.

I was out of contract on the 28th of last month so waited with my upgrade for this phone.

If that is the case il jsut get a new one as im out of contract and will have to deal with the grief of a new number.

I think I've managed to work my way through the god awful form. But I'm not sure, I guess I'll find out on the 11th. I can live with the current iPhone in the meantime. :)

I've just been down. As I suspected, nothing they can do - but apparently most o2 stores are opening at 8:02 on friday morning.....

The O2 store I went to said 7:02am

I checked on Saturday at the O2 store in the Cascades Shopping Center, Portsmouth and they said they were opening at 7:02 am. Today I went to the O2 store about 50 meters away just outside the Cascades Shopping Center and they said they were opening at 8:02 am and that the other store were not opening until 9:00 am so I guess 8:02 am is right. It's amazing that two stores about 50 meters apart don't communicate with each other.

Well, as I can't upgrade via CPW as it's new customers only, have phoned up and having one put aside for me

They said they wont sell out anyway and the preorders are for their online stock only :)

Did you phone the shop? or their customer service line?

I want to get one on friday, just not sure i really want to queue for hours!

If you think about it, it's in O2s interest to sell as many phones as possible with an 18 month contract because that's where all the money is. They many not be loosing money on the PAYG but they won't be making much either. I think they will introduce the PAYG after the initial hype starts to die down.
