*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

O2 couldn't organise a ****-up in a brewery. On the initial release (yes, the one where our local store sold less than 5% stock and where they said 'no credit cards'), their credit card machines crashed, meaning they could only take cash and they sent us round to CPW to get ours on card... Not at all surprised by this.

...and then post on here at 9am when iTunes server's are so jammed you have to wait 12 hours to activate.

It's happened before ;)

You know, as absolutely daft as this will sound, I don't care about waiting to activate it. I just need the hardware :o.

bit of a random question:

is the tone folder seperare from the itunes folder?
eg can i have a custom ring-tone that wont appear in itunes?

1) No
2) Custom, Yes. However, it'll still appear in iTunes.

You'll need to add it with a neat little application called iToner if you don't have access to Garageband / editing software.

This does not require a jailbroken phone, and it's drag and drop

Well, the 16GB can't be ordered any more, so they're not unlimited orders.

8GB is still available. I ordered a 16GB and have had a confirmation email and order status email.

When I track it online it says it has been processed.

Really? Usually their policy is to take pre-orders and just fullfill them when stock is ready to ship on a first-come-first serve.

Perhaps they've learnt from 02 and limited to realistic numbers, or they know how many they're due in the first few batches.

+You're a new customer.. the issue here is existing owners getting shafted :(

I must have missed this 'internal memo'. ;)

n00b.

Oh, I see what you mean..

No, it won't appear in your track listings.. there's a seperate tab in iTunes where you select which ringtones, songs, pictures, podcasts, applications, and movies you'd like to sync.

They're kept seperate on the device, so if you "shuffle" songs it won't play a ringtone.

That iToner app is the easiest way to get custom ringtones on an iPhone.. which is why I mentioned it :)

Thinking about getting an iPhone, just wondered whether BBC's iPlayer would be allowed on their contracts considering its "unlimited data" on all plans?

It'll most likely be along the same lines as everyone with a fair use policy for mobile web use, providing you don't hook it up to your PC and start downloading dozens of movies a month then you should be cool.

If CPW in Harrow don't have my plod phone on Friday I'm returning that place on Xmas and throwing their Xmas tree out the window :(

Well, that's pretty much exactly 24 hours up since I managed to actually get a successful order through yesterday, and still no e-mails from O2 what so ever. Oh the joys.
