*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

My 8Gb iPhone 3G should be waiting for me at home this time tomorrow. :D

I have spent hours mulling over what case to get it, I decided that I didnt want to wack it in a great big plastic case so opted for a Zagg invisible shield which turned up today. Just how fiddly are these things to put on? Im usually useless with these sorts of things and end up making a mess. Will give it a try though. Seem to read mix reviews everywhere I look.

I've applied the invisible sheild to a fair few devices and it's pretty easy. Here's a tip....apply it in the bathroom ;) Shut all windows and doors and put the shower on hot - get the room nice and steamy. The water droplets will attach to any dust in the room and cause it to fall out of the atmosphere. Make sure your hands are clean and spray the solution on your fingers before peeling the sheild off it's backing. Cover the iPhone and sheild with the provided solution and then mate them up. It should be nice and slippy so you're able to line it up real easy. Now, just squeegy the excess. For some corners that keep lifting, let it dry for 5 mins then apply pressure and hold for a minute or so and it'll stick.

All of the devices I've covered look brand new - no air/ dust/ particles under the shield. Awesome stuff!

My 3G docks and Invisible Skin arrived today so I'll be lobbing that on and spending the next 2hrs with that I guess. The 3G dock is pathetically small vs the universal dock :(

Ooooo iPhone v1 on Simplicity vs 3G iPhone on 18 month contract.

Would be going from £25/month non contract for everything I want to £25/month 18month contract.

Can get O2 discount and sell v1 for £200 then buy 3G for £100

Cant decide whether I want to be tied int oa contract again, last time I ended up paying a fortune!

Is the 3G iPhone worth it at the moment? I use a tomtom in the car all the time so was hoping to sell that and use iPhone if possible?

Is it possible to install Fring on a iPhone 2.0/3G yet if it's been jailbroken?

EDIT: Not yet, the Fring guys are working on it though.

omg 2hrs later and i'm buggered if I can get the invis rear shield on! The backing was perfect but those corners weren't going on. I've got tons of experience with this stuff too. The front was easy though :)

How do you install it, I am asuming it's a flat piece of plastic to fit a curved phone.

"Gear Live has word that Apple is beta testing iPhone's 2.1 firmware and will add more GPS functionality to the phone. Specifically, the core location functions will be able to track what direction you're moving, and how fast (for turn-by-turn navigation, maybe?). Also worth noting is that iPhone SDK 2.1 is also seeding to beta testers, but cannot be used with the app store. [Gear Live]"

Correct. You need to spray the sticky side of the shield with a solution, which gives it some slippyness so you can make adjustments. Then you apply the bugger to the back - its the corners that are a headache. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get them down because of the curved rear.

I guess like my Touch, i'll leave it's rear nekkid :o

Well i'm three days in to ownership of my white iPhone and so far am dead happy. Build quality seems similar to the original iPhone but i prefer the plastic backing (doesn't pick up scratches or get fingerprinty), and after switching off location services my battery life is hugely improved.

Don't seem to have any of the problems mentioned with light bleeds etc and the OS is snappy and stable. At around this time with my previous iPhone v1 i was having constant crashes and issues, which meant after a week or so of ownership i sent it back for a refund, but so far the 3G iPhone is my best purchase of the year!

Right, i'm off for a poo whilst i watch Top Gear on iPlayer ;)

Does anyone know if you buy from CPW if you end up with the same as if you bought from O2?

By this I mean I know CPW used to provide their own customer service, billing etc. Is this the case with the iPhone or have they abandoned this practice now?

You're all O2.

You will get your bills from O2 and will check your bills/change your details through O2 online.

However, I'm not sure where you would return it for warranty issues.
