*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

Thanks for the Invisible Shield tips guys, however after reading a lot of negative reviews I took it back and got a Gear4 Icebox pro case instead. Its a crystal case and has a built in screen protector also, can post pics if anyones interested.

I really don't know how you could give the invisible sheild a bad review.. Unless you are a slack and can't install it properly.. Which for anyone interested, is painfully easy. The spray supplied makes it SO easy to align, usethe squeegy to flatten t and remove the excess and let it dry.. Points to note is it does change the feel of using it slightly, as you only really have contact with the screen, you're touching a slightly grippier plastic material as opposed the glassier screen underneath.. I've now got the sheild on the front and a Belkin silicon sleeve covering the back and sides.. I'm now quite confident it should stay looking new untill o2 offer a free upgrade to the next iPhone :D

Pics to anyone who cares.

Any reason why my 3g iPhone doesnt charge with my iPod compatible Car stereo? My old iPhone does but for some reason my 3G wont, everything else works fine but it wont charge?

Well ive dug in a bit deeper to find my problem and it is a hardware issue, not my phone.

UPDATE: As you can see in the comments the reason for this has been explained. Apple has abandoned Firewire as a method of charging iPods and iPhones starting with the iPhone 3G, and as a result any devices that used the Firewire method of charging will no longer work with the iPhone 3G.

So far I can confirm that the iPhone 3G will not charge on some mStation and XtremeMac devices - although it will work on the XtremeMac Luna. I will try to compile a list of compatible players in the near future.

It should also be noted that certain car chargers that work for the iPod will not work for the iPhone 3G either for the exact same reasons as the players. So be careful and do you research before you purchase a charger for your iPhone.

O2 retail stock update

Thank you for your interest in iPhone 3G.

We have received additional iPhone 3G's from Apple and will continue to do so on a weekly basis. We are confident that all customers who want an iPhone 3G will get one by the end of the Summer.

For the foreseeable future, iPhone 3G's will only be available in our Retail stores (as well as Carphone Warehouse and Apple stores). We will continue to sell iPhone 3G's on a first come, first served basis to be fair to all customers.

Important information for existing iPhone customers looking to upgrade to the new 3G device

Existing iPhone customers are eligible for a special, early upgrade to the new 3G handset until 11th October, 2008. This can now only be done via an O2 Retail store. To find your nearest store click here.

We are sorry that we can't meet all demand as quickly as we'd like but we are sure that when you get your new iPhone 3G you'll agree it's been worth the wait.

We will continually update this page with more information.

Great, they have changed that now. I was planning on ordering online but no.

Looks like i'll have to wait until maybe next thursday before i upgrade, what a farce.

Picked mine up today. Caught the last 16GB model too.

Rang the store after getting back off holiday to find out the stock situation, when the assistant said they had 1 left I asked if he could hold it for 30mins; to which he said yes.

Anyway, got to the store.. asked about my reserved iPhone.. to which he answered "I just sold the last one on upgrade"... cue some blood pressure rising, I asked if he could check the stock supply for other 02 shops.. as I asked a guy came from nowhere asking me for my surname.

I turned around and he had one tucked away for me.. he kept his promise. Very happy :)

For those interested.. I went to Cannes amongst my travels, and the Orange shop had a queue out of the door for the 3G 16GB model.. this was about 8 or 9 days ago. The same was true in a few other countries that I visited.. very much in demand.

what makes u say thursday ?

they dont say when they are going to allow online ordering again.

Picked one up today just after lunch.. SIM only became active 2 minutes ago.. guess o2 are just as capable as the last time I had the misfortune to have a contract with them :)

Do I need to do anything to setup visual voicemail or the free wifi schenanigans? Never had a legit one before :p

Visual voicemail just works, and the free WiFi just... works. You may have to put your mobile number in the first time you connect from somewhere, though.
