*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

There's now no such thing as O2 at the Carphonewarehouse. O2 deals with everything directly now, so I assume when you upgraded you were moved over to this new system.
Ah okies. Because I have just upgraded from an 12month CPW with O2 contract, and for that I was using the billing system on the CPW website. Thank god I don't have to use their site anymore :)

Hey guys,

If an iPhone (v1) has been activated or upgraded to version 2.0, can it still be unlocked?

Are there any updates to the iPhone that limits the possibility of unlocking the phone?

I'm fairly sure now if you stick a o2 pay as you go sim card in it you don't have to unlock it.

The only thing I am not sure of is whether o2 have to unlock it at their shop when you upgrade or not so you'll have to find that out from someone else :p

Has anyone jailbroken their 3G yet?

I've seen guides and see that winpwn has been released but was just wondering what peoples opinion was of their jailbroken 3G's.

I jailbroke mine as soon as I opened the box :-)

Nice....well does it affect your service provider at all etc, what is the risk of bricking?
I realise there is always a risk of owning an iBrick as I use a CFW on my psp but the thing is if you **** up your phone you've still got your contract.

Any advice/hints/helpful tips welcomed.

No change to the provider or any of the legit stuff, you just have the option of running stuff you wouldnt be able to normally, on top of the official stuff. Pretty much zero % chance of bricking it. The pwnage method is just restoring a custom firmware in iTunes. The recovery part of your phone is in ROM, so you'd really have to go some to brick it.

I've not bothered with my 3G one, I'll look at it again when the next firmware comes out or Installer 4.0, whichever's first.

If I were to buy an iPhone (3G) of ebay and use my current O2 contract sim in it. Would I still be able to Sync the iPhone with itunes etc and stay on my existing contract? I get more minutes and texts with my contract (aswell as unlimited mobile internet) for slightly less than the £35 iPhone contract. I also don't fancy signing an 18month contract for a phone that I had to buy myself as they wouldn't let me upgrade early...

Can anyone confirm they get free wifi access with their 3G iPhone at cloud and bt openzone hotspots? It says we're apparently entitled to this in the small print, could be a good option for future tethering apps?

Yes this is exactly the setup im using. Got an excellent deal off the bay as well, probably a cheaper price than the upcoming PAYG deal.

Just to let everyone know..

I rang up 02 about my dust problem (as it was Sunday, and Apple were closed).

The guy on the phone was amazing. As soon as I mentioned the problem he was extremely apologetic. He asked where I’d bought the phone then offered a replacement via next-day delivery (pending stock).

He quickly checked to see if they had stock whilst I was on the phone (which they did), and so he put me down for the earliest possible date.. which happens to be tomorrow :)
