OH has picked one up on a free upgrade.

Pretty underwhelming apart from the water resistance.

Battery life still naff.

iPhone 7 64gb same if not worse than my iPhone 6 128gb in this regard.

I think the home button change is an own goal. Headphone socket change a step in right direction.

If it's a free upgrade then fine but otherwise...meh.

Manchester Trafford centre had a pile in stock yesterday while I was having a mooch.

EE store in Arndale had plenty of stock yesterday.

Exactly. Work pay for my SIM only for unlimited everything, so I only take the phone hit anyway.

It's the only smart way to buy a phone yet so many people still get sucked into contracts. It's the instant gratification thing again. People see so they want and can't be arsed saving up for a few weeks.

The phone shops must rub their hands when they see people enter the shop. I have been in phone shops and when I say I want to pay cash I'm either refused or the salesperson walks away. They don't want your cash, they want to tie you into an expensive long term contract. It's a mugs game.

If I could buy outright I would.

It would take me 6-7 months to save up and be able to buy one outright, so unfortunately it's not possible for me.

But look at it another way. Once you have saved up the cash you will then be free of contracts for ever. Sometimes waiting is the best option especially this year as the iphone upgrade is a bit of a non-upgrade.

You could also have gone for the 20 months interest free with Apple. At 20 months your phone wouldn't even be breaking sweat so still good to go for some time after that.

You have several options:
  • Wait a few months and then buy it and save yourself money.
  • Use a 0% Credit Card
  • Use Apples 0% Finance or iPhone Purchase Program
  • If you need to save up this much to afford an iPhone, perhaps you shouldn't be getting a new phone every year and need to respect your finances more.

EVen with getting it on 0%, then the price of a sim only added in, equates to the same price as my contract with EE, but with less data allowance or moving to a network where I won't have signal to use the data (three)

I do agree, the only real way to save is to buy it outright.

What is your EE contract per month? And what does that include allowances/phone?

Did you go in to the store first to get a replacement, or sort one out over the phone with them?

First time reserved another. Second went into store. Said to reserve another, I found a few today but couldn't make it. Will find one tomorrow or during week.

I don't hear the whine during use it's only if I plant my ear on the back of the phone but I'm not paying 900 for a device with this!

For the billionth time...

IT'S NOT FREE!!!

The term 'free upgrade' is not the same as using the word 'free' on its own.

This is a general terminology and yes it is an oxymoron but it works to convey what has happened here at a high level as a business transaction.

'Complimentary upgrade' is the correct English terminology by the book but hardly anyone uses it in day to day conversation and so 'free upgrade' is the default I choose to use.
