The Last of Us Part II

^^^ This

Tight mechanics, but nothing overly special. Love the gunplay though and still the best feeling TPS I've played. There's this weight to it that makes every shot feel deliberate. The coolest elements of it's general mechanical design where very subtle. The ingredients for Medkits and Molotovs being exactly the same for instance, forcing the player to make an inherently engaging choice relative to how good they thought they might or might not be.

In terms of storytelling though, TLOU is somewhat at the apex. It did what few games ever do and leant on subtlety to paint a broader spectrum of character and plot development. Felt identical to playing the original Bioshock or The Banner Saga for me.

I this doesn't make sense I apologise, had a bit of an afternoon tipple xD

I really must play Banner Saga! I have it on Steam, never started it!

I watched some youtube playthrough vids of the first and not keen. I got quickly bored with unchartered 4. I think something is wrong with me!?

This is a game to be experienced, not watched on YT. It's completely different from Uncharted 4 and IMO a lot better. Though frankly, U4 was the most polished action adventure I've played in the last couple of years so maybe you just don't like games in general if you got bored of it so quickly:p It's not perfect but just looking at the climbing animations and graphics made me push to the end. The story wasn't half-bad either considering the genre.

The best thing about TLOU is that it's nothing original but takes its story and characters to such levels that no other game I've played comes close. It's all handled expertly and there are many genuinely touching moments that aren't in-your-face and overly dramatic like in most games. Everything in this game just works. And the ending is fantastic. One of the very few endings that have managed to surprise me.

Ellie and Joel are now my favourite characters ever.

Yes, there's something wrong with you ;)

In seriousness you should really give TLOU a try. It's a game that should be experienced by every gamer, if you don't like it, you don't like it. But to not at least try it is a travesty.

For the price it is these days, give it a blast.

Were you startled at the elevator scene? There were lots on intense moments. If anything I thought winter was the most intense.

Yeah, there were some great and intense moments. I was never outright scared as this isn't a full-blown horror but clickers were genuinely unsettling and sneaking between them felt tense:p

I loved the pacing and the locations. The game always managed to introduce a great moment just at the right time and university ending/winter was one of such moments.

And the beginning of spring was one of the most beautiful things in gaming IMO, seeing that sky after all the stuff that happened during winter and listening to Ellie and Joel's banter and the subtle sadness of things coming to an end... Amazing stuff.
Introducing those little timeskips has made TLOU feel like a big and satisfying journey.

I'm fine with people not liking the game but I don't get why anyone who hasn't played it would want to skip on it at this sort of price. It's one of the best, if not the best, games ever created.

Scared, no but the reality kicked in when I realised how slow the characters were. I hated downtown in the dark area. All those clickers and screamers. The bus, god, everyone came running. The gym was intense but more so after the bloater as two or three came out that dark window. A lot of crap, crap, crap, god damnit moments!

The fridge was intense as well as was the car pushing scene. I need to replay this again soon on grounding when the new headset arrives. Need to Platinum both PS3 and remastered versions. Then Bill, LOL!

The AI was so creepy the way how the thugs hid and peeked around. So many bad and good intense moments.

Loved the moment with the giraffes. The bus stop was another really intense moment especially going inside the dark door for supplies. If anything, the bloater scene with Ellie was the hardest. They came everywhere. Let alone the way David moved for that finale part. That was so creepy!

Yeah, I really have to replay on Grounded. Lots of speciaI moments and the locations are really varied and beautiful. I also loved how heavy and down-to-earth the combat/movement feels, it really fits the atmosphere.

The lighting was so stunning in the game. Even the indoor parts with all the light stands. The horse scenes were great as well. The university was stunning all the rich colours.
