The Lord of the Rings Online - Name / Class / Server thread .. etc etc

Quick question how on earth do i level up my tailor skills? Can't seem to find ingredients anywhere

You get hides from killing animals, and you prepare them on what looks like a stretched hide frame in a crafting hall. The other ingredients you can buy from the Supplier NPC.

Thanks for that sleepery, however as my trades are prospector / metalsmith / tailor I cannot use the hides. Says to use the auction but can't find anything there, or trade. No idea how to trade. I have plenty of hides though!

You could always start an alt purely as a Woodsman, that way you can send the alt the hides and they can be treated and sent back to your Tailor.

failing that if you contact me ingame I can always treat them for you mate - try 'eekeol' or my current alt 'peloq' ...

Ah I see, sorry. Yeah, you've picked the profession that allows you to progress metalsmith (since you can also prospect). Most professions also have a secondary crafting skill that you can't advance without help.

Best way is to have an alt who can do it. By the time you have a few toons up at a decent level they can have a whole mini crafting industry going on between them.

Lord of the Rings, any fans of the games?

Alright everyone,

I've just watched Fellowship of the ring in beautiful 1080p on my new TV and now I've got the Lord of the Rings fever again haha

So I was wondering if there's any good Lord of the Rings games on the computer worth playing?

I'm a fan of action games/role playing games, basically anything!

There are so many out and would like some opinions on which ones are worth playing, thanks guys

Free to play MMO.

Personally don't really rate any of the other games so far :( However Lord of the Rings online is rather good.

All in all, LoTRO is a good game. Bought a lifetime sub when it was originally released (and way before F2P). It's been let down recently with some really irritating networking bugs. Horrendous lag, stable mounts that just stop for no reason forcing you to log out and in again to make it move, stable mounts that fall off cliffs ;)

The worst thing about the game (IMO) is Turdbine's insistency of still using .net 1.1 for the launcher. It's unforgivable considering MS don't even support it anymore (unless you want to pay for it), and most recent OS come with at least .net 2. Unfortunately Turdbine are far too cheap to put any money into migrating the launcher code. All they want is for you to use the store.

The MMO and a couple of the RTS games have been quite well regarded.

Personally, I actually enjoyed the Return of the King game (PC version) from back around 2002/2003. But then I am a huge fan of old school hack'n slash games and this one for me was fairly decent. A couple of frustratingly hard levels though, especially the Frodo ones and trying to play stealth from the Nazgul riding Ringwraith.

I also remember there was one game on the PS2 that was basically a turn-based RPG i.e. Final Fantasy style. Wasn't really good though from what I heard.

The MMO is completely free up to about level 20, after which you can progress, but it becomes increasingly more difficult without spending money. Every so often a deal will come up that unlocks large portions of the game, worth looking out for.

It's a bloody good game for a lord of the rings nut though, they've done a fantastic job of recreating the Shire, Rivendell, and especially Moria & the Misty Mountains. I think I've taken more screenshots of lotro than any other game, ever :)

It's worth giving LoTRO a try at least, if you remotely enjoy it you should sub for a month as it'll provide a lot of unlocks (gold cap, trait slots, swift travel etc) that remain on any characters created while subscribed even after the sub ends. Lot cheaper than paying for the unlocks separately.

One thing to note, unlike most of the games LoTRO has license to use content from the books (and the hobbit) but not the films or the Silmarillion. Most of the other games (including the Battle for Middle Earth ones) use the film license)

I have been playing LOTRO for around 4 years now and still get a lot of enjoyment out of the game. There has been some great content released for it and the F2P model means you can pick it up and leave it as you see fit. The game is a little bit stale at the moment but that is pretty normal before an updated is released so I expect things to pick up when Rohan and mounted combat are released in just over a months time.

While you have to pay for the expansions, what you are essentially paying for is the quest packs. the landscape and corresponfding epic book (story) quests are free so you can roam anywhere you want providing you are of appropriate level. I think the starter areas, Bree and lonelands are all free now so getting to L30 without paying a penny is possible. After that I expect if you bought Evendim (L30-L40) and forochel (L40-L50) you could probabaly get through to Moria (start at L50) for very little cost. FYI you earn ingame currency as you quest and complete deeds which would go someway to unlocking the quest packs.

Would i recommend LOTRO? Well, it depends what you are after, if you enjoy quest driven MMOs and enjoy great visuals and lots of zones to explore then you will probably like LOTRO. The game is very solo friendly these days with most of the population now at level cap a few of the zones have been revamped with the group quests turned in to things that can be done solo. Likewise, the epic quests which often needed full fellowship (6 player) groups in order to complete have also been given a solo option. On the whole this is probably a good thing, becuase finding group for lower level content is always difficult with a game that is over 5 years old. Instances and skirmishes (scalable group content) are still available to do as you level if you want to do some grouping with other players.

While the game is gettining some nice updates with Rohan and still looks good graphically, it is starting to show its age a bit, especially when compared to new kids on the block such as GW2. That said the community is generally very good, the story is pretty enjoyable and overall the game does have a certain charm and character that has kept me coming back for more.

It wasn't received particularly well, but I loved War in the North. Played through it on all difficulties with a friend of mine in co-op, and despite all its shortcomings, it's a title I'd highly recommend to any fans of Action RPGs and/or LotR.

I gave SWTOR a try after doubting, really good. May try this. The films were quite good and I remember playing a LOTR game back on the PS2.

Been playing LOTRO since beta and it is still good. The new Riders of Rohan expansion is due to be released in October and brings mounted combat. I've been testing the new expansion on the beta servers and it is quite good. The new changes to the PvMP Ettenmoors area will hopefully bring it back to life and bring some of the older players back to PvMP.

You can play all the epic book quests as a free player without paying a penny, but you would either have to grind mobs or buy quest packs for each area to level up.

I play on the Laurelin server and the community there is quite mature and friendly.

What changes are they making to Ettens? - there were always rumours of a new PvMP area but never anything concrete. I played for a couple of years and have lifetime but stopped playing after getting bored with Mirkwood endgame content. Came back for a while with FTP and Isengard but haven't logged on in a long time. Skirmishes ruined it imo.
