The Lord of the Rings Online - Name / Class / Server thread .. etc etc

I've yet to find any compelling content after Moria. Lorien was understandably boring, but Mirkwood was a massive letdown. I've been trying Enedwaith instead, but not finding that much better. As a result I have a bunch of toons stuck around 63 with no incentive to go any further.

I just left Lotro for GW2. The sub thing and me wasnt working out haha.

Had a LM and a Guard. Enjoyed it but soon got bored with the mPVP etc.

I suppose that would be one of my compaints about the game too... The lack of challenging landscape content. Everything does seem a little too solo friendly and easy... Moria was genuinely tough to solo in places and the questing wasnt overly streamlined which made it so much more rewarding. I didnt think Mirkwood was too bad, but it was certainly on the small side. For a so called strong-hold of the enemy it was a bit silly you could just walk up to Dol Guldor unopposed. I wish it had been more guarded like pretty much anywhere in Angmar.

To be honest Dunland/Isengard has the same sort of feel as Enedwaith so if you arent enjoying that it is unlikely you will enjoy much of the RoI expansion. That said it did have some nice moments and the Gap of Rohan was pretty good. The most recent landmass i.e. the great river was a pretty good zone all round and even had the repeatable limlight gorge dailies which required group play.

From playing around on beta Rohan does have a good feel to it but more about open plains and attacks on settlements than the twisty dungeons of Moria.

What changes are they making to Ettens? - there were always rumours of a new PvMP area but never anything concrete. I played for a couple of years and have lifetime but stopped playing after getting bored with Mirkwood endgame content. Came back for a while with FTP and Isengard but haven't logged on in a long time. Skirmishes ruined it imo.

There is no new area unfortunately, but the changes should promote more open fighting rather than groups sneakily taking keeps with no defenders. The only way to get points to advance now is by killing the enemy players. No more commendation points for taking keeps, but you get a bonus for each keep and outpost your side controls.

I played LOTRO for years but felt let down by the Mirkwood content and skirmishes. I stopped playing for about a year and lost my toons during the server migrations. I got back into it for a short while but got no sense of accomplishment from playing and the kin I had been part of that used to attempt crazy stuff like 6 man balrog runs and Loremaster only runs of the Angmar instance had disbanded so didn't play for very long.

I really enjoyed "The return of the king" and "Battle for middle earth II"
"The Third age" was decent as well, and a couple of my friends recommended "War in the North"

I bought the lifetime sub 2odd years ago, and still can't get in to it at all even though i like lotr. Given up with it all and find it booring solo :/

War in the north is a GREAT easy to play hack and slash game with RPG elements.

Yes its not groundbreaking but it is fun which most games these days seem to forget.

Loved the BFME games back in the day. And the old ones on PS2 where you played through the movie events hacking away were fun too.

If you are a fan of the Total War games there is also Third Age Total War mod for Medieval Total War 2. I've had some excellent battles playing Rohan against the massed hordes of Mordor. Nothing like a massed cavalry charge of hundreds of horsemen into the ranks of orcs. Watching the orc bodies fly into the air and the rest soon run away panicking.

There is Battle for Middle Earth which is a good RTS, and there is War of the North which on PC is an unoptimized piece of trash with a camera that has tourettes syndrome and stutters like crazy. It's a good game though, just horribly optimized.

Definitely should try BFME II though, its on the Command & Conquer 3 engine iirc.

Really must give this a try. After all, nothing to lose.

In fact, downloading now. Let's see what it's like. :)

It downloads/patches as required and your content will be accessible in game once you login with your old Turbine account.
