The New European Super (borefest) League

That's a random question. Why would that happen?

You honestly dont think its on the cards?

These american owners brought the clubs to have them as a global brand, America is a bigger market than England, I would be more surprised if it doesnt happen than if it does, the ESL will probably also at some point have games been played round Asia, America etc. as well. These clubs already have more fans in Asia than England.

Looking at the revenue share plans for the ESL, also gives me an answer to my earlier question, The reason these clubs were not happy with new CL format is that they want and expect circa 95% of total tv revenue. Thats how greedy they are.

Utd have stepped down this morning from the european association and edd woodward has stepped down from uefa position

full steam ahead folks

How will you feel when clubs like Liverpool and Manchester Utd eventually relocate to America?
Why would that happen?

I'm not saying Celtic etc shouldn't be there if they qualify as that's the format of the Champion's League, my point is that for a neutral the Champions League is largely boring until you get into the later stages of the knockout phase where the big teams meet and it really means something.
As a neutral, this new competition would be largely boring after the first season - the big European games are big because they happen relatively infrequently and the games mean something.
Watching Real Madrid vs Juventus in August with nothing at stake doesn't interest me.

No, I don't think it's on the cards. The US market might be bigger than the UK market but the football market in the US isn't as big as it is in the UK. It wouldn't make financial sense to move to the US and I'm not sure why the question was aimed at me seeing as I'm not in favour of these plans anyway.

Kind of like that world cup thing we got invited to after winning the title, the games had no interest.

I've always believed that the champions league should consist of only the actual champions. For me its a ronseal thing, Champions go into the Champions League, hence the name, others go into the Europa League. Thats always seemed entirely logical to me
That would be even worse than the ESL. A perpetual 5 team tournament involving City, PSG, Bayern, Real/Barca and Juve/Inter.

How would clubs going forward join this league if they wanted? Say for example the Saudi's buy Newcastle and spend a fortune?

In comparison to the number of PL games each season, these big derbies are infrequent, and depending on the point in the season, they often mean something - the ESL is trying to make every game a big game without any of the jeopardy for the losers, it's over-saturation, people will lose interest.

I guess, but given the choice I'd prefer to watch 2 big teams go head to head in a league game than watch Bayern Munich smash Young Boys 7-0 in a group stage.

Technically though, if it's league format then every match means something. If it's such a bad idea then why did UEFA introduce the Nation's League.

Could see this impacting transfer too, if it forms and a major star player is already playing for what is a top club in super league would be less likely to move to another I'd suspect.

Leading to even more of the clubs outside it being picked apart making it even harder for say a club like Wolves to ever reach the status needed to be in a super league

The best comparison for me is the IPL versus test matches. The IPL is great for casual cricket "fans", but is an absolute borefest of flashy lights and money, with no intrigue or subtlety.

This season alone:

Chelsea 0-0 Man Utd
Arsenal 0-0 Man Utd
Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd
Man Utd 0-0 Man City
Man Utd 0-0 Chelsea
Chelsea 0-0 Spurs

It's only half a league format though isn't it?

Rather than 'a league' it sounds more like 2 large qualifying groups followed by a short knockout comp - i.e. a direct replacement for the current Champions League but one where the big boys need not worry about qualifying and without the crap teams they can't be bothered flying half way across Europe to play.
