The New European Super (borefest) League

Its a really tricky topic because fandamentally football became almost entirely about money years ago. When you are paying hundreds of millions for players, paying them half a million a week to play and the top is very much the same year after year based mainly on club wealth, you can't argue its not money driven.

When you allow oil countries to finance clubs, when you allow leveraged takeovers of clubs, when short term monetary success is all owners care about, its about the money.

This all smacks a little of Lewis Hamilton in F1 for me. There is only so much I can listen to someone preach to me about anything moralistic when they are fantastically wealthy and represent the very thing they claim to abhor.

FIFA is corrupt as hell, has been taking bribes for years, has/is taking the WC to places they shouldn't be entirely for monetary reasons. I guess my opinion is mainly coming from a fans perspective and a super-league is bad for the fans of almost every team apart from from those in it.

That being said, few clubs at the top of the game give a single **** about their fans beyond their desire to dip into their wallets so why would they care about them.
Lol comparing Lewis Hamilton to some rich suger daddy club haha nice one...

Well I stayed up last night to listen to the statement. Never thought it would actually happen, and due to the backlash I thought at the very least it would be toned down.

Footballs a money game, has been for decades. Unless your club has a rich owner, good luck!

I really feel for Liverpool supporters. You can kinda except these shenanigans from the others (although I did expect a little better from Man Utd, not much, but a little).

The whole thing makes me laugh. Not sure the FA, PL, UEFA has any teeth. If these clubs want to create an ESL they will....oh, and no way in hell are they getting a points deduction this season. They won't get a slap in the wrist. Just a strongly worded statement.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you. You let someone get too big, and they'll outgrow you and take over. Rememeber, these owners are greedy!

If you are an Arsenal or Tottenham supporter I guess you'll be a little bit happy with playing in Europe....but it still stinks.

Personally, I gave up on the PL a while ago. Too many millionnaires falling over in agony. What son did the other week is just lol. Laid out for 5mins because he got slapped on the cheek. Just embarassing. EFL is far more enjoyable.

Not sure what we can do with these foreign owners ruining clubs, but little bit late now.

People spouting “no relegation “ are missing the point, it’s not a traditional league just like the UCL doesn’t have relegation. It’s just a league format leading to a knockout stage to winning the competition

Champions league you have to qualify each season on merit, so in that respect there is a relegation. Correct me if I'm wrong this is essentially a modern day 'jobs for the boys' as it has no real qualification or relegation. When you're in, you are in regardless of quality

With the same boring combination of teams. I hate Real and Barca as well and their ****housery.

I'm comparing him to the vastly wealthy FIFA who are suddenly complaining about football losing its soul and being all about money when they have had a big part in that and have profited huuuuugely from it. FIFA ain't some nickel and dime enterprise that are struggling to rub a few pennies together. Make no mistake about it, FIFA are all about the money, they just don't like the idea of someone else taking it away from them.

Why would I be comparing Hamilton to rich football clubs, they are the ones who want the super league.

Looks like the end of normal football as well. Just another aspect of life that is being sucked away from the "average day people". Elitism, power and money sucking the soul out of everything.

I kind of half given up on football a few year back, but I do still love football it is still my no1 sport I follow. But this is probably the end if it continues, I don't support any of these clubs so really probably won't affect me. I would probably refuse to watch any of it. I'll continue watching the rubbish local town club I live by whenever fans are allowed anywhere near football.
Good for you.
This has been my sentiment for a while. I grew up loving the game and still nothing else can give you that emotional buzz with the unpredictable nature of the game. I went every week to watch St Mirren with my dad and lived in the shadow of Rangers, Celtic and Ferguson's Aberdeen side. It certainly wasn't about money back then. When the Glazer's bought out United, I hated it but I drifted back because I loved watching United. However this is capitalism going too far. Football doesn't need more money in it - it needs clubs to be managing with less or to be showing more benevolence. Unfortunately capitalism has been allowed to pervade everything - I remember back in my youth when you couldn't see live football on tv unless it was the cup final or the world cup. In fact I remember when the tv companies would't show rangers games due to the advertising boards round the pitch. There needs to be more regulation with our national game to stop the financial escalation - I'm not sure what that looks like yet but I know it need to be punitive enough to drive the likes of the Glazers out of the game.

It's one or the other, Premier league or ESL. Why should they have their cake and eat it.

Because if they kick those 6 teams out of the League then the PL will become a bit **** and no one will care about it or watch it. The bottom would fall out of the league.

The top 6 aren't stupid and know that they have a lot of power. They won't have done this if they though there was any realistic chance of it coming back to bite them.

What about all the supporters of the other clubs in the PL. They'll watch it.

Hypothetical, because nobody getting kicked out.
