The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

I might do a little reshuffle soon.

Getting rid of the 85/1.8 (no need as I got the 1.2, but my 1.8 is so sharp and hard to let go!)

Getting rid of the 50/1.4 and get the 50/1.2. Again, sharp copy! I hardly use it but when i need to, it gets results.

50 @ 1.4

Getting rid of the Sigma 70-200/2.8, as I don't use it.

Get a 24/1.4 or a 24 or 45 T/S.

And then a Peli 1560 case to store them.

when you ditch your 1.8 85 hook me up. im in dire need of one!

New toys today,

Nikon J1 for the Doris! Seems good but will find out tomorrow, I tried the Olympus E-PL3 and that's got great image quality, Lumix GF3 & the Nikon and there all good in their own ways Olympus having the best images but didn't like the screen!

Lowepro Slingshot 220, Great bag.

And finally the 24-70 AF-S 2.8 Nikkor Lens which is amazing and so damn fast at focusing compared to the F1.4G 50mm! and the lens cost a mere £1050 which is cheap for what it is.

Off out tomorrow now for a family days shootin:)

Hey Talon

Ive had an eye on these lenes for a while (also the 120-400) and cannot decide which to get (this i need to hire one and see) but in the mean time give us your low down, sample shoot etc, would be really interested to see what you think of it.

Which Camera have you got it on?

Also does it fit into the Slingshot bag in the background (looks the same as mine)

Sorry for not replying sooner.

It gets no where near fitting the slingshot bag had to buy something bigger.

I haven't got out with it much but it seems a good lens more so when you consider the price. It obviously not as good a a prime and low light performance isn't steller but it seems sharp at f6 and very sharp at f8. I have it on a D7000 so I can ramp up the ISO to compensate a little for the fstop. Its big but not too heavy so I carry it with a Black rapid strap for fast access while out walking though recently has been I the rain most times.

There is a sample shot from the back garden of a pigeon @ 500mm - Here

A couple of small bits for me this week, some bags for my lighting gear. One that takes the two lencarta flashes and all their extra bits and then a bag for the light stands and umbrellas. Will make transporting a lot easier.

L lens collection, 17-40, 100 Macro, 24-70, 100-400
I took this in May 2005; time goes so fast !!

Then in 2008 I added a Sigma 120-300 F2.8 :)

I've got an AE-1 and an EOS 3, sadly my film shooting has stalled as I've got 15 films to develop and my local cheap developers has closed! (local Tesco was actually quite good).

I've still got the F401s that I started out on. I use it occasionally but I just don't like the feel of it...tempted to get something smaller and lighter. I've also got an old Lubitel 166 and a Diana F. I use the Lubitel more than the others although like Rojin I've also got a number of rolls waiting to be developed.

I dunno why but I love the build quality on the Sigma's, even compared to Canons of similar cost, the 30mm f/1.4 looks lush.

85mm looks great there but it'd be far too long for me on a crop sensor, is it for Macro shots?
