*** The new MacBook/MacBook Pro thread, all info in here ***

Anyone been unlucky enough to end up with any dead pixels, uneven backlighting, etc? My screen ended up being 100% perfect which was my biggest concern with ordering something that I wasn't able to examine in person beforehand.

How is it Apples fault exactly? They've contracted it out to a third-party whom - I might add - thousands of other businesses use as well.

As for the "high end and expensive purchases" - TNT won't really know nor care about the package contents, the sort of volumes they and other couriers deal with it's not even relevant. I appreciate as the end customer this package is the most important thing in the World to you, but just trying to present some perspective on this. :)

Hope you get it resolved soon.

Well ultimately they choose to use TNT as their courier of choice so its partly their responsibilty as well. Of course its entirely TNT's fault but due to Apple's rubbish tracking system, half of their customers don't know who the courier company is anyway and just go straight through Apple regardless.

My screen and backlighting seem to be perfect on my MBP, im constantly paranoid though as the thing is such a dust magnet I constantly seem to be finding dead pixels only to find its another speck of dust. I did have one stuck pixel which I brought back to life initially though.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm not blaming Apple for TNT's failings, I'm saying that Apple are responsible for them as I bought the item from Apple, not TNT. It is Apples responsibility that my purchased item gets from them to me, however they choose to do that. So whilst Apple has not done anything wrong per se, the fact that I have not got my item and they cannot tell me what's going on is entirely their responsibility and it is for them to resolve. The fact that I am getting involved and trying to speak to both them and TNT in the hopes of getting my macbook earlier rather than having to wait another month for them to ship another one out to me is really irrelevant.

The macbook certainly is not the most important thing in the world to me, but since we are consumers paying a lot of money for these items, why should the company making the profit and pushing a higher profit margin by using a courier company that has a questionable delivery history be allowed to pass the buck onto the courier company? I fulfilled my part of the bargain but they have not. This is a two way street.

I'm with you on this. You bought from Apple and it is upto them to deliver no matter what.
If you have not signed for the package then you have not received it no matter what TNT or anyone says.

I feel for you. I would be in a state of complete rage by now.
Hope all is resolved

Got mine this afternoon. Will post some pictures in a bit but just quick question.

Is there any Mini Displayport to normal Displayport adapters or cables?

My Dell 3008 30" has normal size displayport and normal size cable so I can't plug it in how I was going to.

I did not read or look right before buying and thought it would be a straight fit.

Afraid not mate, from wikipedia:

For now it is not possible to connect displays with a normal-size DisplayPort connector to one of the new MacBooks, as Apple does not offer a Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter, and using DVI as an intermediate would limit the maximum resolution.

Whats your first impressions bar that? Will look forward to the pics.

What choo want is this:

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter

The Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter lets you connect a standard analog monitor, projector, or LCD that uses a VGA connector or cable to a MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air with a Mini DisplayPort.

link to info - as sure OC does not supply this product - please excuse and remove if it does.

Thanks for the info on the displayport.

I am really bad at taking pictures and only have an old Sony Compact so here is a few bad pictures.

Some Imageshack links so here goes:

On the iLap stand.

Couple of Desktop shots:

Next to the Gen 1 MBP, currently updating after reinstall of Leopard so I can give it away to a mate in need!

If you look close you can see the chassis infront of the old trackpad is comming apart :( Still works fine though.

I will try and get my brother who is well into photography to bring his 5D around and take some pictures. But knowing him he will want me to pay!

Not had time to do much other than turn it on and run the update.
Will get things setup, install Guitar Rig and have a play later!

I am not that fond of the trackpad click. It's too far to press it and makes a noise. I always use tap to click anyway as thats how I like it the same as my iPhone so should not be a problem.
The feel of the pad is great though. Really nice to touch.

Also looks like I got a good screen. Will put the Spyder3Elite on it later or tomorrow but on the stock profile the colours seem great. (pictures make it seem pretty bright and washed out but thats just my bad photography!).

nero120, any news on your Mac?

Apple support didn't get back to me today which is annoying, but I have been speaking to TNT separately and they reckon my package is in their depot and will deliver it to my work address tomorrow. Knowing my luck though, I half expect to find a caged bengal tiger waiting for me at the reception desk!

Well jealous of yours though, she looks great! Enjoy!

Sorry! I meant TNT - been a long day! :)

Thanks dude, I order a macbook 2.0 with 4gb ram plus a printer using the rebate thing. Let's see what tomorrow brings!

Ah look like you had a very long day ;)

Really hope it arrives for you mate... May i ask why you went for the MB rather than MBP is it due to cost or you wanted the size?

I am a MBP owner at the moment but think if i did get a new one I think I prob get the top end MB rather than another MBP aint too sure that why I am maybe thinking getting a iMac instead for it massive screen to do my photography

wouldn't he want the Mini DP to Dual Link DVI for a 30" Dell? That way he'd get the full resolution and a digital connection?

However, I got one of the normal DVI ones the other day, and have a Dell 2709W and it doesn't seem to work - the macbook detects the monitor, but the dell just goes into power save mode as if the macbook's not sending it anything - I've tried with both extend and mirror mode and a range of resolutions and I just couldn't get anything to display. It works fine with my old viewsonic 17" though. Am I doing something wrong? Also, I presume single-link is fine as the adapter says it works with the 23" apple display which is the same res (1920*1200) as the Dell.

edit: So actually getting round to posting this made me actually get round to trying to troubleshoot my problem - so I unplugged everything else from the dell and plugged it into the macbook - selected DVI-1 and it worked straight away. Weird. So I'm guessing the USB or HDMI was messing it up or something. No idea really, but it's working now.

Well I have the DVI port on the screen plugged into my PC.
So I kind of wanted to use Displayport so I could get 2560x1600 over it. Just need Mini Displayport to Normal Displayport adapter or cable.

yeah, Mine's got a DP as well, kind of annoying that there's no MiniDP to DP adaptor yet or any word on whether one's coming at all. The 2709 has 2 DVI ports - and from what I've read, so does the 3008. So all you'd need is the Dual-link DVI adaptor, but I think they're pretty expensive.

edit: nevermind, there must be more than one version - the OcUK page for them says only one DVI, but the Dell page has a picture clearly showing 2

Ah there is two DVI-D ports. Just got behind it to have a look. Not done that since I installed it a few months back.

Guess I will be ok with the adapter but would be nice to have a cable with DP to MiniDP for the 'clean' look.
If the pins are the same just a different size plug I don't see why it can't be done.

because then apple can't force you to buy their adapters or use their monitors.

it's the Dual-link DVI adapter you'll need, which is like £70 from apple.

I think keeping the miniDP proprietary also means you won't be able to connect an old mac to the new Displays.
