Which Apple Watch Series 8 will you get?

From everything I have heard it's fully customizable as it uses shortcuts, so you could possibly be able to trigger an event across both the watch and phone

Hadn't considered this, so I could just trigger the kettle boiling or turning on the coffee machine straight from the button? Hmm...

At the moment I have to open the shortcuts shortcut and then press the icon to start the shortcut. This could reduce like 2/3 touches out of that scenario :p

I’m sure their sales figures of it will completely agree with you.

Apple quite often get it completely wrong.

Look at their embarrassing U-turn with the latest MacBook Pro. Touch Bar, gone. SD Card slot/various other ports back etc.

I really want to buy the Ultra but not if it looks like a heinous piece of lego on my wrist. The initial photos are worrying me slightly, I'm really hoping it's a bit sleeker than it's looking in some of the photos. Rugged, yes I like that and some brands pull this off very well, but if it just looks bulbous and tacky then it won't be for me, and many others I suspect. Fingers crossed it's nice in the flesh!

Really liking my S8. Come from a 5 year old Samsung Gear S3, this has so many more features, way more intuitive to use and after the first night I’ve found the sleep tracking to be way more accurate already. Also a lot more comfortable.

Would be interested in seeing size comparisons to similar Garmin/Suunto watches as this is the marked the Ultra is aimed at.
Garmin are a similar depth to a standard Apple Watch but obviously not as good a screen but far more robust, 10 times the battery life and last a lot longer. Oh and I can't unlock my Mac with my Garmin :D As you can tell for me these consumable watches are the emperors new clothes, the ultra even more so.

It’s not just the HR sensors it’s the algorithm they use which is rubbish. If it accidentally records 190bpm for a few seconds when you’re sitting still it will save that data instead of discarding it. You end up with a daily HR chart that looks ridiculous as it has all these random blips. Hearts do not go from 50bpm to 190bpm and back again in the space of a few seconds.
Have you been able to collaborate your HR manually at the time of the 190bpm readings? If not, it might be worth checking and not just discounting it as an error.

A family member has this, turned out their Apple Watch was correct and they had undiagnosed SVT.

Sorry to hear mate. Yes it's definitely an erroneous reading as I can feel my pulse beating noticeably slower when it happens. The sensor technology isn't infallible but it's great to hear stories where it picks up stuff like that.

I’ve had Apple Watches since the series 2 and I’ve never had it record a high heart rate blip.

I’d definitely get yourself checked if it’s doing that.

It’s not very accurate at all mate tbh. Probably fine for resting but if I go out running with a proper HR strap that monitors electrical readings in the heart, the results are completely different. For example after a tough run during the recovery period the Apple Watch HR will be all over the shop, the HR monitor will more or less be a perfect linear line as recovery sets in and my HR declines. Using light seems to me quite a crude way of obtaining a HR reading tbh.

Help me folks. I want to order Apple Watch soon. Already moved over from android (Oneplus) to 14 pro.

Currently using a Ticwatch pro 3. Been using it for 2 years now, and now would like to move on from it and get myself a apple watch.

Which one do I get?

8?
7?
Or SE 22?

Difference between them all?

If you’re happy to get the 8 then that makes most sense, longest amount of support, software updates etc. That said my 5 is going strong still.

Yea that does make sense. Just thinking it over.
I mainly use watch for Payments, replying back to messages/WhatsApp and fitness (step count and sleep)

Now I need to ask myself, is it worth getting the 8 or should I save a bit of cash and get a 7 or SE?

If you aren’t bothered about features just get the SE and save money. I’m only upgrading to the Ultra from my 3 because the battery is now goosed in it.

The upgrade will be massive for me but I’ll likely use most of the new features on it.

Thought about it for a week and gone with the Ultra with Starlight Alpine Loop. Will use my existing Nike Sports band for running.

Got a few alpine hiking adventures and around 50km/week of running planned over the next 6 months so easily justified. Just hope it isn't too bulbous!

Wonder if my Series 5 is worth anything more than the paltry £50 or whatever it was Apple quoted.
