***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

Might get one of these as a terminal for the kitchen/lounge/wherever I am, to control music etc.
Useful for taking on the train, too!
Will wait for more reviews first though.

Plenty of reviews out there, think I've read 5 or 6, all of them pretty much saying the same that its a bargain

While the Eee will be perfectly capable at handling older games, we found that anything newer tended to fall flat on its face for several reasons. First and foremost is the Intel GMA900 graphics chip -– second is the fact that the Eee’s processor is actually running at 630MHz instead of the alleged 900MHz that has been such a popular number until this point.

I think I'll hold off until January

I think I might wait for the 2nd gen EeePC which is set to launch April next year which are said to use Core 2 chips, contain no fan, and have a lower power draw for longer battery life.

It's just that wait which is annoying... haha.

I guess ill buy one now, and nearer the release of the second gen sell it on and take the hit on it. Will be worth spending the extra $ to get it much sooner!

mm. I've been browsing with Opera in the eeePC's resolution, and have decided it, combined with Opera's page zoom and fit to width, is perfectly acceptable to browse on.

Currently browsing my normal sites at 70% zoom with minumum text size bumped up a bit, and almost all sites are perfectly browsable. Digg is a little messy, but thats only due to the increased font size; it works perfectly on 100% zoom, just a bit crushed! IGN is rather messy but fully functional (using it as a test of a "heavy" site).

I think I'm sold on the early models.

This thing is perfect il be ordering one.

I was looking a note taker/ pdf reader that could browse and ssh for my lectures and was looking at getting a smart phone but this thing can do all that plus i can do my developemnt on it instead of on lab machines in college.

buy!

Actually I was in the market for an XPS 1330 or the rumoured 1530 before I stumbled across the eeepc articles. Obviously the £230 vs £900 factor played a part, but I might still get a higher spec laptop in spring should I need more mobile Oomph in my travels. I sort of see this thing as my travel PDA with a 7" screen really. Different devices for different tasks. Everyones needs are different - Look at it as 76 less beers in the year to fund this purchase! Not only will you not have a beer gut, you have a gadget! :p

Eee PC

Who else has ordered the Asus Eee PC? (The use of "else" implies that I know of someone who has, and it must be said that this person is myself).

What are the plans for the device when it is received?

Which colour has been ordered?

Im very close to ordering haha.

Im ordering white as the black seems a lil cheap looking.

My plan for use it a web browser and note taker for lectures at university and also to allow me to ssh into my departments servers to do development work.

I'm waiting till my friend gets his and then seeing if I could put up with the resolution (I think I could).
