***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

Not really in the same market segment at that price. Plus the 900 has a higher res screen.

true, but its a beast in a small package, looks quite compact too and enough power to do vista

more info on the 900

http://eeepc.asus.com/global/news03042008.htm

as good as the 900 is, i think the price is too high @ £300-350 (probably more at launch)

the 701 is a nice price @ £200, if the 900 is £350+ then its in the same price bracket a decent dual core spec'd laptop

having said that, i'd probably still want a 900, i cant help myself with gadgets lol, im glad i didnt get the 701 a week or so ago though, ive seen these 4gb ones in stock for approx £190 new

I reckon these 701's will go end of line very quickly (due to short supply) or around the £150 retail, and even less on auction

I recently got rid of my EEE, they are very nice machines, but I found the resolution too restrictive for extended use. I shall certainly have a look at the 900 when its out.

Just a quick post to say hello fro my new eeepc!:D Right, now to get XP installed and the touchscreen put in.:)

just got mine, sweet little thing it is too :)

now to install my 2gb and dual boot an nlite'd XP and Arch Linux onto the SSD.

this things gonna be great on my trip to NY next week, need to rip some BoSelecta/USA :p

haha oh dear :p is that the 701 yea? what do people think about these 702's ive seen from hong kong... and would it be worth waiting for the 900 ?

Has anyone installed XP onto an SD card? Is the performance any worse? If so how much? Im thinking about having OS X on the SSD and XP and Linux on SD cards.

Is there an easy way to test the transfer rate of my SDHC card?

which windows do you have because on vista if you transfer a file onto a removeable hdd (eg. sd card) while the file is transfering you can click more detains and it will say the rate at which its transfering :) i think anyways, i rememebr seeing it when i did it a few weeks ago... im pretty sure im right tho :D

Looks like the SDHC is about half the speed of both write and read actions. Might give it a go just to see what it is like irl.

I didn't know there was a 702, and i don't think there is.
Looking at the manual in the pictures of those from HK, it even shows EEEpc 701 on the manual.
They are just 8GB 701's, being called 702.

At the present time, i would defiantly wait and see how much the 900 costs, and if the 701 drops in price.

Have you got OSX installed on the SSD? Im considering doing it the other way round to you and installing OSX on a SD card.

I did have, now back to XP (used Acronis True Image to save time ;) )

I tried to install OS X on the SD but it failed at 16% on the file copy. SSD works fine.

i think they are being called the 702 because they have 2 Gb of ram in them. but yea when is the 900 predicted to come out?
