***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

Got my girlfriend an Asus EEE PC900 and just did an XP install on it from USB stick. Awesome, XP boot up time is really fast as well!

Very impressed with the laptop overall, even considering picking one up for myself!

you should do the eee xp tweaks, I think disable logging, then set temp/working and pagefile to a sd card to reduce the number of writes.

OK I'll have a go. What size SD card is recommended?
EDIT: Anyone got a good link to a tweaking guide?

Just ordered my White 1000H.

Can't wait until it arrives.

Have a few questions as a first time laptop owner though:

-Are there any third party apps that would enhance my EEExperience (Oh man, this is alsmost as fun as iProduct)?
-What flavour of Linux would be best suited to my EEE? (I'm planning on a 60:20 XP:Linux partition)
-Is there a dedicated site/source for (1024x600) EEE wallpapers?

Just got my EeePC 900 - 12gb - XP - 1gb ram - LG external slim DVD-RW - £200 delivered

I have to say, other than a very small keyboard it is really nice to use.

Pics in a bit.

Edit: Sorry it took so long, went to see the Dark Knight :D

That's a great picture on the desktop...where did You get it from ?

Ah yeah, that's right... the building on the left hand side is featured in that film. It really is huge, I saw it when I was there last year.

Out of interest how does eeepc handle 720p and 1080p videos? Both compressed and non compressed.
(Intension to use external monitor obviously and while here, how does it behave outside native resolution?)

Hi everyone

Just managed to Get Windows XP (SP3) onto my 701 EEE

My Veho 16gb SD card has just arrived, should I format the SD card in FAT32 or NTFS?

Cheers

Pete

I got my Asus eee 901 (12GB/XP edition) on Friday and I'm very happy with it. :)

The battery life is nothing short of stunning. Even on the "super" performance setting I'm getting 4-5 hours battery life. That certainly beats my work laptop's battery life of 90 minutes!

Size is great and the screen is just the right side of bearable in terms of size/resolution. Typing on the keyboard takes a bit of getting used to but it's fine for most activities.

Performance is a mixed bag with XP. Boot up time is sensational but it does feel a little sluggish sometimes. Overall, performance is decent for the size and price.

I bought an Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive to go with it. Windows installs the drive without prompt and I've used it without hitch to install several programmes. It still looks a bit silly compared to the size of the eee though!

Wow!

Thanks for reminding me. I was very slightly annoyed because I couldn't install Office with my DVD (ended up dling the trial and then using my full key).

But now I can just hook up the HD DVD drive I already have!

Awesome!

I have just got my 901. I am loving it, just need more space. i have seen a 32gb sd card which seems crazy, i didnt know they were so big.
