***The Official Core i7 Overclocking Thread***

What happens if you go back into the BIOS and re-save the settings? does it work then?

Try:
CPU: 1.42v
QPI/Dram Voltage: 1.35
LoadLine Calibration: Enabled
CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
PCI-E Spread Spectrum: Disabled
CPU TM Fuction: Disabled

Then if thats stable, work your way down on the CPU voltage and each time run Prime95 for atleast a hour.

I've tried this and have the same problem. I boot into windows, works fine, I can prime it and it passes.

If I reboot it is fine also, but if I shutdown and then start it up again then I get an overclocking failed message...

I'm baffled...

Temps under load were also mid 80's which I'm not exactly chuffed with..

UCLK Freq (is this the uncore?) is AUTO

QPI Link Data Rate is AUTO also..

What should they be set to?

I have the following settings :-

AI Overclock Tuner = Manual
CPU Ratio = Auto
Speedstep = Enabled
Intel Turbo Mode = Disabled
BCLK Frequency = 190
PCIE Freq = 100
DRAM Freq = 1523Mhz

CPU Vcore set to 1.42
QPI/DRAM voltage is 1.35v

I can't find any CPU TM Function to disable it - or is this just the turbo mode again?

I'm running 1003 BIOS...

I'm just baffled why it would run fine under Prime, and reboot etc.. but then fails after a complete shutdown?

Thanks for the help!

psykix: Try turning on the Turbo mode (what a cheesy name) your'll have 4GHz speed under load if you do. And the TM Fuction isn't in the same menu as the rest of those options, i think it's in the next tab along in the BIOS. But cant see that causing the problem anyway. Whats your RAM voltage and speed at the moment?
I've had another board in the past that had this exact same thing as yours.

And i leave both UCLK Freq and QPI Link Data Rate both on Auto.

So what do you think the issue could be then?

The fans in my LQ-1000 kick in really high too which defeats the object somewhat..

I need to try to get the Vcore down, but having to faff with the BIOS settings every time I power off is a pain..

The UCLK uncore frequency must be a min of twice the ram frequency. You have your ram on the x8 multi, 1523Mhz, so uncore should be x16 3040Mhz.

QPI should be as low as possible, usually the x36 (x18), so 6840Mhz @ 190 BCLK.

Have you set you ram voltage and spd manually? I have encountered boards that don't give enough ram voltage at post and lose their settings. Also check the sticks are in the correct primary channel slots, they probably are or you'd loads of problems.

I've tried those settings..

Still the same problem - passes Prime ok, but then after a power down I get Overclocking Failed! Reboots are fine however.

I set the DRAM to 1.66v still the same :-(

Totally baffled...

Well i just turned my PC off to try it with my P6T, and it didnt happen (never normally turn it off).
When you shut it down, do you also turn it off by the mains or power switch on the back of the PSU? with a board i had in the past that did it, it would only do it if the mains power was cut off.

You should try clearing the BIOS...

Well last night I had it overclocked and running fine. I rebooted and it was fine. I shut it down, left it 5 mins then switched back on, it was fine!

Switched it off last night, switched back on this morning, overclocking failed! message..

It is quite similar to the link you posted on guru3d fornowagain, but not convinced it's an identical issue.

What BIOS are you guys running? Maybe 1003 has a problem?

I actually had it happen to me after trying it again a second time... "overclocking failed" on boot up. It's the problem fornowagain linked, where the Back-to-Back CAS is set to 0 in the BIOS.
I have 1003 BIOS, but the person in that thread has tried other BIOS' and says they also have this issue.
Just seems like a simple BIOS bug that could easily be fixed.

Dont bother me though because i never turn my PC off!

Just checked and mine is the same problem also - CAS back to back is set to 0...

Hopefully they will bring out a BIOS fix for it..

Have it priming at 4Ghz at the moment..

Well you are underclocking at the moment!!

Post your screens in this thread, not the other..

You are running 12 x 190 which gives you 2.28Ghz!

Try 20 x 180 or 20 x 190 and see how you get on.

To check stability download Prime 95 and let that run for an hour or so...

underclocked? where am i looking, it thought it was at 3900ghz?? also i want it to not have a shortened life span due to to far overclock my friend said over 4ghz will mean it wont last to long, but as i say i dont know. do i need to change any of the voltages or just the two numbers you said??

edit: it says at 3.81 in my bios when i boot up also. The 2.2 in the core speed in the first image was a fluctuation as it switches between that and 3.8-9 rapidly if you look at the temp box on the left it has 3.8 in the top corner
