Does it still require a constant internet connection to play single player, and is it still completely unmoddable due to this reason?

Don't count your chickens, people like to mods games regardless of online modes and the such...

Take GTA4 for example, rockstar tried to shut it down and that went well

As for Diablo 3, as long as the map is FIXED and doesn't randomly change every time you start a level i will have no problems, either that or make rare drops more than a 1.25% chance with max charms and such :p

Diablo 2 map hack is why i no longer have D2 :p but it will forever be an all time favorite.

Pretty sure the maps aren't fixed. That or I have a serious undiagnosed mental condition.

Doesn't feel especially laborious though, running the skeleton king is pretty quick. There are objective identifiers too when you get close to the next level / quest destination etc. Crafting is actually decent too.

Unsure about rare % drops, magic gear is really split though, you get a lot dropped and can easily roll full +exp or full +magicfind while leveling.

Having watched some beta videos of the DH it's somewhat put me off. Leaning towards the monk now!

Monk is my class of choice so far, barb definitely feels stronger in the beta but that is just early game. Monk has better range and his aoe heal is awesome.

Anyone here played the D3 beta to death who fancies a change? I have a Path Of Exile beta account, i'd be willing to swap for a change. Check it out if you havent seen or heard of it. It's damn good!

The map is fixed, the dungeons/zones you enter are all randomised.

The only "issue" is the weapon holding/wielding. Can't believe they haven't allowed the monk character to hide them - sure its just aesthetics but still! And I'm betting on harder modes range will be king. Wizards will pwn as per usual probably!

Only had half an hour on the beta so far, but it's good fun! Went for the barbarian to ease myself in, but after 30 seconds I realised that it's just Diablo, no easing required :D

I've not tried the barb yet, i've tried the DH, WIZ and a bit of monk though. After doing the skelly king a few times i got bored with it. Been playing 'Path Of Exile' for the past few weeks, its definately up there with Diablo 3. Maybe beyond D3 if you love a massive unique skill tree and dark gritty graphic style

Well, my pre-order of diablo 3 cost me £21.50. However just spotted the collectors edition and fancy the starcraft 2 portraits................is there enough there to justify an extra £50? decisions decisions

I don't mind the drop rates, just in D2 the amount of dungeon configurations was stupid, made looking for gear boring unless you used a map hack so you could at least tell what way you was heading, i still enjoyed it.

Just hope it's somewhat better...

That sounds pretty dull. Half the game is exploring, finding chests and having to look for the next floor.

I'm not seeing the the fun in starting a new character and playing the same layouts as I already have on my other chars. You'd just walk to the next floor.

It is clear from the video that they took a page out of WoWs book when it comes to armor design. Lots of big shoulder pads with lots of spikes and bright colours.

Nope, it's fine when you are doing it for the first time, or second.

but when you are item running and doing bosses hours on end it gets boring rather quickly, im guessing you never played D2, at least not to a point of having good gear :p

I LOVED my hammerdin, with enigma plate doing boss runs...The good ole days of gaming. soloing uber tristam was epic as well the only part of the game where you actually have to watch what you are doing lol!

I've played plenty of D2, and it didn't bother me. I enjoy exploring, and I doubt I'd have ever gotten any enjoyment from the game as a whole without generated instances.

Blizzard have already said a few times that just grinding bosses again and again in D3?won't get you the best gear like it did before. They've put the work in to stop people needing to do it, so that you get fun out of the whole game rather than just the bosses.

You stand as much chance to get the very best from killing normal mobs as bosses if I've read it correctly. Missing out parts of the instances and skipping mobs will mean less chance of the best drops.

Love them. I always liked the over-sized armours. Its make believe after all!

Great post. Thanks for sharing.

IIRC, there is still set stuff and legendary items on top of this, these are the base sets.

E.g. im pretty sure the crown you put on the skeleton king is a legendary drop in Inferno.

About farming bosses, the buff that they added - nephalem valor, gives you boosted magic find when you kill a rare / champion pack of mobs, so sweeping zones before hitting the bosses might be a big deal.

Edit - just for reference from that vid, the second tier gear is around level 10-15, judging from the beta.
